INTERNATIONAL RIGHT OF WAY ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
1. INFORMATION FOR SCHOLARSHIP APLICANTS
New England Chapter 16 of the International Right of Way Association (IR/WA) awards scholarships
each year. Amounts vary from $200 to $500 to as many as four students. The scholarships are awarded to
seniors that will be or have just graduated from high school and plan to attend an accredited post secondary
school or college during the next academic year. Application must be in by April 1 and the successful
applicants will be notified by June 30th.
2. SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFICATION CRITERIA
The applicant must meet the following requirements to be eligible to receive a scholarship:
A) Be a resident of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, or Rhode Island scheduled to graduate
from high school or equivalent at the end of the spring semester.
B) Must be enrolled in an accredited college or post secondary school and planning to begin next fall.
C) Must have maintained an average grade of B or better.
D) Must have a realistic career goal relating to the Right of Way profession such as Engineering, Law,
Appraisal, Environmental Studies or related areas such as economics, communications or negotiations.
E) Must be able to demonstrate some financial need.
3) APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The following items must be submitted to give your application full consideration:
A) Completed application form
B) Two letters of recommendation - one from a school official such as principal, guidance counselor or teacher
and one from outside the school such as an employer, minister, community leader, etc.
C) A copy of applicants high school transcript.
D) A signed statement (100 words or less) indicating your plans for the future, reasons for choosing your
particular field of study, and future goals and aspirations.
4) APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Assemble all items in III above and forward to the IR/WA member at the address listed on the bottom of the
application form no later than April 1st. No late applications will be considered. Applications and supporting
information will not be returned to the applicant.
