This article is found in Travelers' Health: Yellow Book. Health Information for
International Travel, 2005-2006. This article specifically talks about what “mad cow
disease and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is, as well as where it is common and prevention
tips.
“Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, or "mad cow disease") and a disease
in humans called variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (vCJD) are both disorders, which are
caused by an unconventional transmissible agent, are invariably fatal brain diseases with
incubation periods typically measured in years.” -Lawrence B. Schonberger, Ermias D.
Belay, James J. Sejvar.
In humans BSE leads to vCJD and is incurable.
