					           2009-2010 CSULA UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS
                               GENERAL INFORMATION
ALL APPLICANTS

Thank you for your interest in the 2009-10 CSULA Undergraduate Student Alumni Scholarships. The Undergraduate Student
Alumni Scholarships are awarded by the Alumni Association to undergraduate students at CSULA who have demonstrated
leadership involvement on campus and in the community. The Alumni Scholarships are distributed in Winter Quarter of each
year, and are currently awarded in the amount of $1,500 per student. The directions below will assist you in the completion of
your application.

APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY
All eligible candidates must meet the following requirements at the time application is submitted:

    Undergraduate student at CSULA                                                   Have significant campus and/or community involvement
    GPA 2.5 or above                                                                  and/or leadership.
    Must plan to enroll full-time for the Winter 2010 quarter                        Transfer students with less than 24 units completed at

APPLICANT SELECTION

Once applications are submitted, the Alumni Association will verify all appropriate information, including cumulative GPA and
units completed. All eligible applications will be read and evaluated by members of the Alumni Association Scholarship
Committee. Applications will be evaluated on the basis of essay, overall impression, accomplishments, campus activities,
community activities, leadership, letters of recommendation, and financial need. The application screening process will take
place on January 9, 2010 and the semi-finalists will be invited to participate in a mandatory interview on January 30, 2010.
After the interviews, the final candidates will be selected. Check awards will be distributed at the Alumni Scholarship Brunch
on Sunday, February 21, 2010.

COMPLETING YOUR APPLICATION

The 2009-10 CSULA Undergraduate Student Alumni Scholarships application is available to download at
http://alumni.calstatela.edu. Save the application file to your computer. You may complete the application by hand or online.
The application consists of:

          Application - completed and signed
          Please complete all sections of the scholarship application. If a section is not applicable do not leave the section blank,
           please type the words Not Applicable (or N/A).
          Transfer students with less than 24 units completed at CSULA at the time of application must submit an official or
           unofficial copy of your college transcripts (Community College or other four year University).
          Extracurricular activities and employment sections (SECTIONS A, B, C, D)
          Two (2) signed letters of recommendation (SECTION E)
          One completed essay (SECTION F)

SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

Submit the application materials in ONE ENVELOPE (please to do not staple any part of the application):

Applications missing any element listed above are considered incomplete and will not be forwarded to the scholarship
screening committee. Applications may be hand delivered or sent by mail. Faxed application will not be accepted.
Completed applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, November 19, 2009 by 5PM. Late applications will
not be forwarded to the scholarship screening committee. Return completed applications to:

the use of your non-classroom time. Please list any other factors that bear on the use of that time including (but not limited to)

E.         LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION (enclosed with your application)
Two (2) signed letters of recommendation are required. All letters must be dated, typed, addressed to the Scholarship
Committee, and may not be from relatives.
          One letter must be from a faculty member (i.e., English professor, Math, etc.) from CSULA, Community College, or
           other University. Letter must be typed on official school stationery (faculty letters received without appropriate
           letterhead will be disqualified.)
          One letter must be from someone outside of the CSULA community (i.e., employer, mentor, etc.).
F.         ESSAY (provide on a separate page)
You will be assessed on your ability to answer the question on page seven. Please be thoughtful and answer the question in
one page. Your essay will be rated on clarity and conciseness. Essays that exceed one page will be disqualified and not
forwarded to the scholarship screening committee.
