A Brief History of Albania
• (4000-1500 BC) to 50 AD – Illyricum
• 50 AD to 1443 – Conquered by Roman,
Byzantine, Bulgarian and Serbian Empires
• 1443 – 1468 – Skenderbeg successfully
defends against the Ottoman Empire
• 1478 – 1912 – Conquered by Ottoman Empire
• 1912 – 1940 – King Zog
• 1940 – 1990 – Communist rule
Cultural History
• Christian through the Middle Ages
• Forced Islam by Mohammed II in 1478
• Angry God to be feared
• Communism
