Web Pages
A web page or webpage is a resource of
information that is suitable for the World
Wide Web and can be accessed through a
web browser.
Browsers
This is a program used to locate and
display web pages.
Most browsers also have the facility to
store frequently visited sites
e.g. Favourites/History.
Plugins such as Flash and Quicktime allow
the user to use non-standard content,
usually of a multimedia type.
Microbrowser
This is a program used to locate and
display internet content on a handheld
device such as a mobile phone or PDA
Microbrowsers use a smaller scaled down
version of the web pages, since these
devices operate with less memory and
lower bandwidth.
HTML
Hypertext Markup Language – This is a
language used to create web pages.
The language uses tags to describe
elements.
A start tag and an end tag are placed round
elements of the page. E.g.

Search Engines
Search engines are used to find websites
on a specific topic e.g. Google and Ask
They work by maintaining tables that link
websites with keywords.
Meta-tags are put into a web page to
provide details about the page.
This is done using keywords and
descriptions.
