1. Purpose of the Report



To update the Admissions Forum on the admissions to nursery, primary,

junior and secondary schools.





2. Summary



2.1 Nursery Admissions

The percentage of Hertfordshire parents/carers being offered one of

their ranked schools on allocation day was 98.43% (in 2005 98.90%).



2.2 Primary Admissions

The percentage of Hertfordshire parents/carers being offered one of

their ranked schools on allocation day was 97.93% (in 2005 96.77%).



2.3 Junior Admissions

The percentage of Hertfordshire parents/carers being offered one of

their ranked schools on allocation day was 99.28% (in 2005 99.19%).



2.4 Secondary Admissions

The percentage of Hertfordshire parents/carers being offered one of

their ranked schools on allocation day was 94.06% (in 2005 93.18%).





3. Conclusion



The Admissions Forum is asked to note the position for the September

2006 round of admissions.





4. Process details



Nursery applications and allocations in 2006.

There were 9,528 applications for nursery school places in 2006. 149

were from outside Hertfordshire and 9379 were from Hertfordshire. On

allocation day, the percentage of pupils being offered one of their

ranked nursery schools was 98.43% (in 2005 98.9%) for Hertfordshire

parents/carers.



Primary applications and allocations in 2006.

There were 11,116 applications for primary school places in 2006. 250

were from outside Hertfordshire and 10,866 were from Hertfordshire.

On allocation day, the percentage of pupils being offered one of their

ranked primary schools was 97.93% (in 2005 96.77%) for Hertfordshire

parents/carers.



Junior/Middle applications and allocations in 2006.

There were 2,831 applications for Junior/Middle school places in 2006.

45 were from outside Hertfordshire and 2,786 were from Hertfordshire.

On allocation day, the percentage of pupils being offered one of their

ranked middle/junior schools was 99.28 %( in 2005 99.19%) for

Hertfordshire parents/carers.



Secondary applications and allocations in 2006.

There were 15,002 applications for secondary school places in 2006.

2,666 were from outside Hertfordshire and 12,336 were from

Hertfordshire. On allocation day, the percentage of pupils being

offered one of their ranked secondary schools was 94.06% (in 2005

93.18%) for Hertfordshire parents/carers.

As a result of concerns expressed by parents additional places were

obtained at some schools i.e.

Roundwood 25

Sandringham 25

Sir John Lawes. 7

Knights Templar 13



Appendix 1 shows parents/carers who retrieved their child’s allocation in the

three hours from 3 pm on allocation day.





5. Other Information



Appendix 2 shows some of the services available to parents and the number

of hits to the services. Appendix 3 shows the rise in online applications since

Hertfordshire pioneered online admission in 2001.





6. Conclusion



The Admissions Forum is asked to note the priorities for the September 2005

round of admissions.
