Endowed with a mammoth network of 356 transmitters
installed at various places all over the country, All India Radio makes one
of the largest broadcasting organisation in the world, which has the
capability of covering virtually every nook and corner of the country.
Technological advancements brought in radio broadcasting have always
been accepted and adopted by All India Radio to keep pace with the
changing scenario.
Central Sales Unit provides vast opportunity to its advertising
world to reach out to the millions of its listeners through quality
programmes and technological marvel. All the advertisers seeking growth

threshold.
Radio Audience Survey (RAS)
For updating listenership data pertaining to various AIR
stations spread all over the country, Audience Research unit conducts
field surveys on regular basis. Incidentally, more and more number of
stations is being covered under the survey expanse with every successive
round. In the latest phase of this survey, as many as 63 AIR stations
were covered thereby generating a data base of 53,100 radio households.
Through this survey an effort has been made to study the general radio
listening pattern of the families having a radio set.
The survey included all the „AAA‟, „AA‟, „A‟, and „B‟ category
Primary Channel stations with an eye on AIR‟s business prospects in the
form of Ad booking. The past experience has shown that in all these
commercially vibrant places business activities are far ahead of those
falling below them like categories C & D. Some sample PC stations of the
„C‟ and „D‟ category were also covered in this round in order to give it a
semblance of completeness. The sample of the survey was so mammoth
and number of survey places were so large that most of the AR units had
do the field work in two to three rounds.
The proposed survey was designed and controlled by the
Directorate of AIR and the Director Audience Research monitored its
execution at every level. A comparative analysis of different radio
channels available in Pune makes it amply clear which radio station
stands were in terms of listening among different socio-economic
sections of the society. The same analysis has also been done by Age and
Sex of the respondents.
Radio Audience Survey conducted in this round was special in
more than its mammoth size. This time round an attempt has been made
to learn about the consumer behaviour among radio households as every
radio listener is a putative buyer of goods and services sold in the
market. The information about the future market requirements can be
passed on to those who deal with them and they, in turn, can utilize such
powerful mass media to propagate their products. It is expected that
such basic information input would be of immense use to the media users
as well as its planners.

long time to know the ball – to – ball descriptions of the proceeding of
the match. All India radio has made elaborate arrangements to provide
this feast of entertainment to its listeners.

1. Daily sponsored programme “Godrej Powder Hair Dye Top Ki Baat”
brought through the agency M/s. Madison Communications Ltd. has
completed two years of its broadcast in January this year. As per
the client rare feat of running a single sponsored programme for so
long has found place in the Limca Book of Records. Now the client
is trying to nominate this event in the Guinness Book of World
Records.
2. Chitralok is a very popular programme of new film songs that also
includes trailors of new releases. CSU markets these programmes.
Around 17.88 Crores of listeners listen to this programme everyday
according to ARU report. M/s. D.S. Mittle & Sons – an advertising
agency of great repute – has been giving us trailors of latest film
releases and TV Serials. For one of their trailor a special credit goes
undisputedly. Trailor of Film „Vivah‟ went on AIR for 59 runs till
December end. However, it was continued for more days because
reasons for the success of this film were searched in this trailor.
