Contagious Disease Research Project
You, alone or with a partner, are to research a contagious disease of your choice (ex.
Chickenpox). You are to become medical experts on the disease. You will gather
information that you will present to the class about your disease.
Your presentation should include the following topics:
i) What are the symptoms of your disease? (Most move in stages)
ii) Where did your disease originate from (in the world)?
iii) What type of people (age, gender, etc) are most affected by your disease?
iv) Where is this disease still an issue? (Still found in Canada?)
v) What is the disease? (Virus, bacteria, something else...)
vi) How is it transmitted (ie. saliva, airborne)?
vii) How does it affect the body? (Be specific to each system it attacks!)
viii) Are there any known cures for the disease?
ix) Is there any way to prevent from getting the disease?
x) How has medical science been used to combat the disease?
. The presentation will take place in front of the class, so your presentation skills will
also be assessed. Use of colour, diagrams, and colour pictures will improve the overall
mark of your project. An information brochure must also be completed which may be
used as a handout for your classmates.
The following is a list of contagious diseases you can choose from.
Chickenpox Malaria Tuberculosis SARS Rabies
West Nile Virus Mononucleosis Meningitis Conjunctivitis Influenza
