615. PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS
1. Purpose The Board may at its discretion act on behalf of individual employees to deduct a
certain amount from the employee’s paycheck and remit an equal amount to an agent
designated by the employee. It is the purpose of this policy to designate those
purposes not otherwise mandated by law for which the Board is willing to act on
behalf of the employee.
2. Authority No deduction may be made from the wages of an employee except for federal or
SC 513 state income tax, county tax, social security, occupational privilege tax, and School
Employees' Retirement Fund without proper authorization by the employee.
The Board authorizes deductions from an employee’s paycheck upon proper
authorization on the appropriate district form.
On request of an employee, the district will deduct for health and life insurance,
annuities, and government bonds, if set up on a monthly schedule of four (4) months
or more. On request of an employee, the district will deduct for charitable
contributions provided the amount of said contribution is twenty-five dollars ($25)
or more, and deductible over a four (4) month period (no deduction for less than
$2.50 per pay period). At the request of a professional or temporary professional
employee, deductions will be made for professional memberships in national, state,
and local education associations provided such deductions are made in eighteen (18)
equal installments.
