      Metaphor Poetry
 Pick an everyday object from around the house,
or around the world we live in (examples: dryer,
    iron, fire truck, skyscraper, etc)
 List some things that it reminds you of or that it
    could be like
 Write a four line poem that describes your object
 Do not name the object directly in your poem
   Metaphor Poetry - Examples
Apartment House

A filing cabinet of human lives
Where people swarm like bees in tunnelled hives,
Each to his own cell in the covered comb,
Identical and cramped -- we call it home.

The Toaster

A silver-scaled dragon with jaws flaming red
Sits at my elbow and toasts my bread.
I hand him fat slices, and then, one by one,
He hands them back when he sees they are done.

The School Building

A factory dispensing ideas and facts,
Breathes in minds and exhales lives,
Building thoughts and shaping dreams,
Helps us all to survive.
