Electors urged to vote in Tin Wan by-election on Sunday

Electors in the Tin Wan Constituency are urged to vote in
a Southern District Council by-election on Sunday (November
21).

Two polling stations – one at SKH Tin Wan Chi Nam Primary
School, 1 Chi Nam Close, Tin Wan, Aberdeen, and the other at
Caritas Aberdeen Social Centre, G/F, 22 Tin Wan Street,
Aberdeen, will be open to voters from 7.30am to 10.30pm on
polling day.

A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said
voters were assigned to one of the two polling stations in
accordance with their registered residential address. They
should check their poll card to make sure they go to the right
polling station to cast their vote.

The six candidates contesting the by-election are (1) Mr
Chong Yui, a Chinese herbal doctor, (2) Mr Fung Wa Hing, a marine
engineer, (3) Mr Wong Huk Kam, a solicitor, (4) Mr Chan Fu Ming,
an executive of the office of a District Council member, (5)
Mr Kwan Man Yau, an executive director of the office of a
District Council member, and (6) Mr Chan Pak Chuen, FCPA
(Practising).

The spokesman said voting would take just a few minutes.

"All a voter needs to do is to show his identity card at
the polling station, and use the chop provided to stamp the
ballot paper with a tick in the circle opposite the name of
the candidate of his choice before he puts it in the ballot
box," he said.

After the polls are closed, the two polling stations will
be turned into counting stations, and members of the public
are welcome to watch the counting of votes.
An election hotline, 2891 1001, will be in service from 7am
to 11pm on polling day to answer enquiries relating to electoral
matters, including the location of the polling stations.

A complaints hotline, 2827 7251, will also be in operation
from 7.30am to 10.30pm on polling day to handle complaints about
breaches of electoral rules and guidelines.

The successful candidate will fill a seat that became vacant
in early August after an incumbent District Council member was
disqualified from holding office.
