Cadastral and Census Discussion Items
January 2008 Cadastral Subcommittee Meeting
We need to work out an endorsement method for points of common control so non-cadastral users of the data like Census can have more certainty that they are using a correct location. We need to identify the boundaries that legally coincident so we don’t move lines that should not be moved.
The condition of survey atlas BLM-Cadastral is assembling will be an important tool to ascertain the reliability of the lines and identify areas where shared efforts to improve the positional accuracy would be beneficial.
County and State boundaries are important for many applications and having an integrated representation of this data is essential for many users. The Census geopolitical boundaries are used and relied upon by many users.
ACTION ITEM - We agreed to create a study group (project team) to look at an approach to defining a solution to this issue and to identify a few test areas and then report back to the group. The initial members of this project team include representatives from Census (Laura and Randy, others to be determined later and representatives from the cadastral community (Stu, Nancy, Marc, Bob) and others to be determined later.
