Dear St Michael’s College Community, COLLEGE CALENDAR

BULLYING AND HARASSMENT POLICY — COLLEGE DIARY (P15) APRIL

28 Mass Yr 8

This topic has received unprecedented publicity across all media and school Yr 11 & 12 Academic Assembly

communities in recent years. We have all been made aware of the impact of bullying Mark Le Messurier Parent Workshop

and, in some cases, the effects have been very harmful over long periods of time.

The College Diary defines ‘bullying’ as consisting of deliberate, hurtful gestures, words or 29 Mass (P)

actions which could be repeated over time. In the modern era this definition has been Yr 8 & 9 Immunisations

ST MICHAEL’S COLLEGE - TERM 2 WEEK 2 – 29 APRIL 2010

PRIMARY ART

Term 1 was very busy for the Primary school in the art room. We all started off with Carnevale mask making and the parade

was colourful and a great celebration of Italian culture. The Year 7 boys helped me with making a large banner of a Venetian

sunset so many thanks particularly to Casmire Heyward (7AZ) and Callan Emsley (7AD) for their help in painting it.

The Year 7’s did an in depth study on Hokusia the Japanese wood block printer who did “the 36 Views of Mount Fuji” (this

tied in with Natural Disasters) they also wrote Haiku poems to go with them with great effect.

The Year 6’s studied “The Guernica” by Picasso and did some amazing individual Cubist tonal replicas of this painting as

well as group murals. The group murals had a modern twist as they represented the class novel “Boy Overboard” which is

about the modern day war in Afghanistan. I was impressed by the calibre of their work and the poems that accompanied

their individual pieces.

As the Year 5’s did the “Careful we live here” unit we did some Graeme Base inspired “Uno’s Garden” murals with great

success. Examples can be seen on the Art wiki and also on the art room window. It was great to see the boys collaborating in

group murals.

“Life in Chains” was the Inquiry Unit for the Year 4’s and they created hanging food chains which had a strong scientific

component in it. I saw some great African wild dogs, Zebras and many different organisms represented while showing the

flow of energy from producers to consumers up to the Apex.

The Year 3’s showed their design skills when making T-Shirt /Rashi designs to relate to their Sun Smart/ Light unit. They really

enjoyed creating and colouring their own designs and putting them onto T-shirts. Their critiques completed the appraisal part

of the design process. Well done boys!

All year level’s art can be seen in the primary school’s art wiki: http://artsmc.wikispaces.com/

Keep on expressing your creative side boys!
