SUPERINTENDENT’S CORNER
Well, Mother Nature is at it again. You never know what she is going to throw at you each year. There is no such thing as a normal year anymore. We are much cooler than usual for this time of year, which I am thankful for, but I wish that the rain would spread itself out a bit more. Grass is a very forgiving thing in that it will survive in a lot of climate changes. Established lawns will go dormant in the heat of summer and bounce back after the first good rain. However, new grass and plantings need regular watering. A rule of thumb is one inch of rain a week. If we don’t get that , you have to make up the difference. There are a couple of things to look out for on the course. First, the new tees on holes 5 and 6 will be ready to play on soon. Also, some good news and some bad news, depending on your way of thinking. The big ash tree that guards the start of the16 fairway is not long for this world. It has shone signs of the insect Emerald Ash Borer, and once you see the flagging it is just a matter of time. Speaking of things to look out for on the course, please keep an eye out for the Maintenance Staff while you are playing. We try very hard to stay out of your way , but sometimes it can’t be avoided. Most of the time we will be out of your way as soon as possible. Thank you for your time and positive feedback.
