Our Fun Dog Show on Saturday 6th June was a brilliant success and we raised over
£500 which we have donated to the Riding for the Disabled Association.
Congratulations to Ruby Kendall, a very
cute Burnese Mountain Dog puppy who
was our Show Champion.
We were very lucky with the weather this
year and the sun shone on us all day.
There were lots of entries in every class
and the competition was fierce! Special
thanks to Jackie Forbes of Hearts Delight
Kennels who had the difficult job of
judging everyone.
We have lots of pictures of the day on
our website www.bournevets.co.uk.
All the winners deserve a mention and were as follows:-
Best Youngster – Ruby the Burnese Mountain Dog puppy who stole the show!
Best Older Dog – Dizzy the Jack Russell Terrier
Waggiest Tail – Poppy the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Best Rescue/Rehomed Dog – Billy the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Best Junior Handler – Laila Horton with Sox the Collie
Dog Most Like Their Owner – Florence with Freda the Fox Terrier
Fancy Dress – Twiggy and Lloyd the Pugs dressed as babies in their pram!
Musical Sit – Jarvis the Cocker Spaniel
Sausage race – Rudi the Labrador who retained his title from last year!
Dog judge would most like to take home – Ruby the Burnese Mountain Dog again!
Once again we were lucky enough to be given an
agility display by Canterbury Dog Agility Club which
was very impressive and afterwards everyone was
able to have a go which made us realise how easy
the agility dogs made it look. Special thanks to Len
and Lesley Jeavons for all the hard work they put in
to make this possible.
We have to say a temporary goodbye to Hayley Buggins who
has been with us since we started in 2006 as she is taking off to
travel around the world in September now that she has finished
school.
Hayley has worked with us on Saturdays and during the school
holidays and she has been an incredible help and asset to the
practice. We will miss her and wish her lots of luck on her
travels.
We currently have another great OFFER for Cat Owners as we are offering Buy
One Get One Free on Profender Spot-on wormer throughout September and
October. This revolutionary treatment treats both roundworms and tapeworms
without you having to get your fingers bitten off! Ask at reception for details.
September is Pet Smile Month. This is a national
campaign to raise awareness of the problems of
dental disease in our pets. Throughout September we
will be providing FREE dental check-ups for your pets
and will be able to give you lots of advice on
preventing dental disease as well as giving out goody
bags with money off vouchers and treats for your pet.
Call us on 01227 832322 to book your check-up at
any time that suits you throughout September
including weekends.
Another date for you diary is our next evening talk. This is at Bekesbourne Village
Hall on Thursday October 15th at 8pm. We will have a panel of experts available to
answer any questions you might have including vets, a nutritionist and a dog
behaviourist. If you have any particular questions you would like answered then
please email us before hand to info@bournevets.co.uk or let us know at the
reception desk. This should be a fun evening and we will be providing
complimentary drinks and nibbles. This will be our last talk this year so book your
free place early by ringing us on 01227 832322.
This little critter is causing us lots of headaches at the
moment! It is the harvest mite (Trombicula Autumnalis)
and they appear to be particularly active this year and are
irritating a large number of both dogs and cats.
Harvest mites are active in long grass and will swarm onto
passing pets and congregate on the eyelids, ears, paws
and abdomen. They are easily identified as bright orange dots adhering to the skin
and can cause severe distress and itching. The only effective treatment is to spray
them with Effipro and this will rapidly kill the mites, but this may need to be done
frequently throughout autumn. If you are concerned that your pet may be being
affected then give us a call on 01227 832322 and we can help and advise you.
We know that November still seems a long way off but if your
pet is nervous about Fireworks then there are some long term
therapies that you can start now to ensure your pet is better
equipped to cope when the scary noises start. Ask us at
reception for more details and we can discuss the options with
you as we know this can be a stressful time for many pets and
their owners.
