SportsMan Newsletter August 2009 www.sportsmansql.com New Hardware Peak Software is constantly updating and adding features and functionality to SportsMan SQL. Along with those features are new hardware and peripherals. In addition to the great admittance control devices we have now, we are adding a new network connected eight channel relay switch and a new biometric access control system. The new biometric access control system includes a network connected fingerprint scanner and keypad with a built in relay switch (pictured below). Register your patrons’ fingerprints at the front desk with a USB attached fingerprint scanner. A patron can then enter their barcode and then scan their finger at a network connected fingerprint scanner for entry. The new network attached relay switch is also a great option if you have multiple gates or doors. The best thing about this new device is that it attaches directly to your network and can be controlled by any computer on the network using SportsMan SQL’s admittance module. Please speak with our staff if you have any questions about available peripheral hardware. A Word About Reconciling Mistakes in tracking financial information are bound to happen. SportsMan SQL can be a great tool in finding and correcting financial discrepancies before they become a problem. It is very important to give SportsMan SQL enough information to ensure that what it has recorded actually matches what happened. Reconciling tills in SportsMan SQL is the primary way to can ensure that your financial records match and that all money is accounted for. From the main menu select Cash Register > Reconcile/Accept Cash Register Till. Choose the till to reconcile and click on Reconcile Till. Total the amount of each payment type that is in the physical till and enter it in the Collected column. If the till balances, you’re done. Click Save to finish and you will be prompted to print a report or two. If the till doesn’t balance, make necessary adjustments or corrections and then finish by saving. It is important to reconcile all of your tills including internet registration tills if you have them. Reconcile them with your payment gateway reports as soon as they are available. Curtis—being a man of many talents—was previously employed in the mortgage and finance industry, assisting both customers and staff with his exceptional service skills. His enthusiasm and ‘can do’ attitude serve him well here at Peak; he has proven to be a great asset to the technical team and he loves working with our many customers throughout the country. At home, Curtis is a husband and father of two, and enjoys spending time with his family, both immediate and extended. He likes to spend his free time shooting, playing volleyball, listening to talk radio and playing video games. Curtis also enjoys watching movies, and can always get a good laugh out of anyone within earshot by blurting out quotes from them at appropriate times. He’s a dedicated movie buff who knows his retro horror flicks quite well. Often, here at Peak Software, support issues and their circumstances can get very intense (see photo above). Such that technical conversations erupt, and commonly take a dive into a realm that we fondly call ‘The Nerd Bucket.’ George Lambson (the robot on the left) joined us in January 2008 with a full-blown degree in ‘Nerd-Bucketism.’ This simply means that if it’s technical, he’ll understand it or figure it out. He’s one of the guys at Peak who sometimes seems to exist full time in the ‘Nerd Bucket,’ which is a great thing for our customers, as well as his coworkers! Tapping into those ‘Nerd Bucket’ intuitive skills, he gives his all to troubleshoot challenging issues and arrive at a timely resolution. He sometimes surprises even ‘the nerds’ (next month’s featured department) here at Peak with his natural aptitude for all things technical. George spends his spare time with his family and enjoying his hobbies (hobbies defined as “I enjoy doing stuff with people. Unless it’s not fun, then I don’t like it”). Other interests include technology, fixing and maintaining stuff around the house, and watching movies and episodes of Futurama. He likes campPeak Software ing and fishing with his family and especially his kids. Systems, Inc. The truth is that no software company would be complete without a Curtis or a George. They, along with tech veterans Kelly and Rich, form a world class technical support team that never encounters a problem it can’t solve.
