The MVP has most frequently been a center, who

have been selected 27 times. Eleven wingers have been

selected, ten of them right wings. A defenseman was se-

The Pittsburgh Penguins Most Valuable Player is an

award given by the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National

Hockey League at the conclusion of every season to the

player or players deemed most valuable to the team. The

first winner, following the Penguins first season in the

league in 1968, was goaltender Les Binkley. Mario

Lemieux was voted team MVP 12 times, between 1985

and 2003. Jaromir Jagr has won the second most awards

with four. Jean Pronovost and Sidney Crosby won the Mark Recchi was the winner for the 1990–91 season.
