The Power of Prayer
James 5:13-18
The Power of Prayer
I. Pray in Times of Suffering (13a).
The Power of Prayer
“And now, Lord, take note of their
threats, and grant that Your bond-
servants may speak Your word with all
confidence, while You extend Your
hand to heal, and signs and wonders
take place through the name of Your
holy servant Jesus.”
Acts 4:29-30
The Power of Prayer
And He went a little beyond them, and
fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My
Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass
from Me; yet not as I will, but as You
will.”
Matthew 26:39
The Power of Prayer
I. Pray in Times of Suffering (13a).
II. Pray in Times of Happiness (13b).
The Power of Prayer
While He was on the way to Jerusalem,
He was passing between Samaria and
Galilee. As He entered a village, ten
leprous men who stood at a distance
met Him; and they raised their voices,
saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on
us!” When He saw them, He said to
them, “Go and show yourselves to the
priests.” And as they were going, they
were cleansed.
The Power of Prayer
Now one of them, when he saw that he
had been healed, turned back,
glorifying God with a loud voice, and he
fell on his face at His feet, giving
thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan.
Then Jesus answered and said, “Were
there not ten cleansed? But the nine—
where are they?
The Power of Prayer
“Was no one found who returned to
give glory to God, except this
foreigner?” And He said to him, “Stand
up and go; your faith has made you
well.”
Luke 17:11-19
The Power of Prayer
I. Pray in Times of Suffering (13a).
II. Pray in Times of Happiness (13b).
III. Pray in Times of Sickness (14-16).
The Power of Prayer
Because of the surpassing greatness of the
revelations, for this reason, to keep me from
exalting myself, there was given me a thorn
in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment
me—to keep me from exalting myself!
Concerning this I implored the Lord three
times that it might leave me. And He has said
to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for
power is perfected in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:7-9
The Power of Prayer
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks
the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner,
shall be guilty of the body and the blood of
the Lord. But a man must examine himself,
and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and
drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks,
eats and drinks judgment to himself if he
does not judge the body rightly. For this
reason many among you are weak and sick,
and a number sleep.
1 Corinthians 11:27-30
The Power of Prayer
As He passed by, He saw a man blind
from birth. And His disciples asked
Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or
his parents, that he would be born
blind?” Jesus answered, “It was neither
that this man sinned, nor his parents;
but it was so that the works of God
might be displayed in him.
