NATIONAL HORTICULTURE MISSION
Government of India (GOI) launched National Horticulture Mission
(NHM) for the holistic development of the horticulture sector in all the
states with an aim to double the horticulture produce by the
year 2011-12
During 2005-06 an expenditure incurred was 697.21 lac and 1736.88 lac
was during 2006-07
The Annual Action Plan (AAP) for the year 2007-08 has been approved
for an amount of Rs.: 7511.11 lac
CONSTRAINTS:
Lack of adequate marketing of horticulture crops.
Weak post-harvest management infrastructure
Lack of processing of fruits and vegetable.
Inadequate relief for orchards in the event of natural
calamities.
Lack of technical Staff
MARKETING
Well developed marketing network comprising of:
139 Principal Yards
275 Sub-market Yards
1050 Purchase Centers
Four Terminal Markets being set-up at Ludhiana, Jalandhar,
Hoshiarpur and Mukatsar in PPP mode.
Two projects for development and strengthening of marketing
infrastructure submitted to DMI, GoI.
33 Infrastructure Centers for collection, sorting and grading of
vegetables and fruits being set-up under NHM.
Participation in Multi-state Agricultural Competitiveness
Project.
