World Rules Referees Course
by Martin West
A number of people have expressed an interest in completeing an official World Rules Referees Course as organised by the English Pool Referee's Assoc. We are currently investigating this and would like to know numbers and ideal nights to do it. T h e E G r a d e course/exam is approximately 2 hours and includes a question and answer session. The course is a 'taster' or beginner course and is ideal for people that have started to play the world rules, want to learn more about them and to gain an insight into refereeing. The course will be the c o m p l e t e World Rules, including all timing rules and the course will be given b y EPRA Examiners. Following the E Grade course there is a multiple choice test. There are 80 questions and the candidate will have to reach a mark of 80% in order to pass. This course and exam takes approximately 3 hours in total and the cost is £10 per person subject to a minimum of 6 entrants. The course will endeavor to cover all the rules, referees calling procedures and referees duties. O n s u c c e s f u l completion of the E grade examination:-
Entitled to membership of the EPRA for an unlimited length of time (subject to r e n e w i n g t h e i r membership). Entitled in the First year to referee at local league matches only, and the second year may referee at County l e v e l u n d e r supervision. For those interested in progressing further in the EPRA, or to develop their knowledge further, we will be doing further, more advanced courses at a later date. If you are interested, or know somebody who does, please email me at vicechairman@darwenpoo l.com stating the preferred weeknight (unfortunately we only have weeknights available).

After an absence of too many years the committee has started discussions on reforming the Darwen Town team, With the DPA’s affiliation to the Lancashire County Pool Association we will be able to enter a team in future Interleague competitions. We are currently looking into the possibility of putting together a management team to oversee the running of a future team. Anyone interested in becoming involved please contact me at chairman@darwenpool.com
World Rules
Reminders of Rules
by Allan Harle
It has come to our attention that there maybe some confusion on a few of the new rules. On this page I have added some pointers that may make things clearer. If you have a problem on a Monday night do not be afraid to contact a committee member. They should be able to help or direct you to someone who can.
The Break
The toss a coin is only to be used for the first game. Alternate breaks are to be used for the remainder of the games. If no Colours are potted on the break the table is “Open”. If one or more Colours are potted on the break the player then has a right and obligation to verbally advise the referee of a choice of Colour before proceeding. Failure to do so is a Standard Foul. If the player nominates a Colour that was potted on the break, the player is on that colour no matter what happens next. IIf the player nominates a Colour that was not potted on the break, to be on that Colour, the player must pot a ball of that Colour on the next shot.
No Players
If a team is short of players you MUST put NO PLAYER on the card. You cannot put a name down of a player who is not there. If it is brought to the attention of the Committee the offending team will face disciplinary action.
Signature on Result Card
The Captains signature on the bottom of the result card is confirmation that your team accepts the result. If you do not accept the result for whatever reason, do NOT sign the card & enter your dispute in writing to the Committee.
Copy of the League rules
A copy of the League rules should be available to be looked at during a match. Can all Pubs ensure a copy is available. More copies can be printed off the web site.
