“I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling,
in Christ Jesus.”
This last weekend while attending the Shamrock Tournament in Charlotte, I witnessed St.
Paul’s letter to the Philippians lived out in multiple gymnasiums throughout the city of
Charlotte. I was honored to see our students in pursuit of the goal to be the best that
they could be as a team and to represent St. Michael School to the 31 other teams
competing. I was moved to tears as I witnessed our cheerleaders demonstrate their
gymnastic skills in many ways. I was so proud of these young women who bring such
energy to our athletic endeavors. I was also extremely proud of our boys and girls teams
as they pushed forward toward the goal of winning game after game. I pray that the
lessons learned through team sports will translate to the commitment to pursue and
achieve other spiritual, personal, and professional goals in life.
Congratulations to the St. Michael School Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams
who competed in the Shamrock Tournament in Charlotte this past weekend. The girls
advanced to the championship game on Sunday afternoon winning the first place title
and the 2007 Tournament Trophy. This is the first time that a team from St. Michael
School has won the Shamrock Tournament. The Joe Mosca Most Valuable Player
Award, named after the founder of the Shamrock Tournament, was presented to
Grade 8 student, Stephanie Scope. The varsity girls are coached by Mrs. Danielle
Harber and Mr. Mark Baric. The members of the Shamrock championship team
included: Abby Baric, Rikki Brown, Ashleigh Crutcher, Christina Gibbons, Lauren
Halk, Sami Harber, Katerina Pascht,Caitlyn Ranson, Becca Russo, Sarah Russo,

The varsity boys surpassed their previous level of competition and represented our

Basketball team included: Dan Baker, Ryan Crowley, Clay Geiger, Colton Lehman,
CJ Liuzzo, Ryan McAnallen, Timmy Nalesnik, Nick Pizzurro, Chris Scott, Michael
Shea, Jack Sinopoli, and Matt Skowron.
The students who were members of our Girls’ JV Basketball Team also had a very
successful season. The Girls’ JV Team was undefeated. The members of the Girls JV
Team included: Madison Beuris, Cheyenne Cheung, Erin Crowley, Marie DeRusso,
Andrea Fitzgerald, Danielle Herman, Gabrielle Lavelle, Veronica Lavelle, Haleigh

The Boys’s JV Basketball Team improved greatly this year and had a successful season.
The JV Boys Basketball Team consisted of: KJ Bruno, Domenic Finelli, Kevin
Fitzgerald, Ben Grazen, Yanni Hachem, John Halk, Sam Place, Connor Riser,
Victor Rizzo, Peter Schachte, Aaron Schuman, Connor Sutton, Bradley Stiver, and
Owen Zidar. The JV Boys were coached by Bill Donovan, Tara Schultz, Michael
Baker, and Michael Nalesnik.
The Cheerleading Exhibition at Charlotte Catholic High School provided our
cheerleaders with the opportunity to shine. They made my palms sweat as they tumbled,
flipped, and all landed safely in the trusting arms of their counterparts. The cheerleaders
include: Mary Margaret Adams, Savannah Ballbe, Mary Baron, Quinn Beeler,
Danielle Burns, Mason Callahan, Lauren Cromie, Karly Donovan, Brittany
Maslowski, Katie Piccola, Erin Sands, Colleen Scott, Ann Tally Usher, Annie
Vonlehmden, Taylor Vrscak, and Sarah Young. The cheerleaders are coached by
Mrs. Carol Bram and Mrs. Debbie Sonday.
Finally, I want to thank all of the parents who drive students to and from practices
and games each week. I am amazed at how wonderful our students have performed in
basketball and volleyball this year even without a gymnasium. Just think what our
teams could do with a gym!!!!!
