Special Missions; Emphasizes Discovery, Humor and Organizational Skills --
BURBANK, October 11, 2007 . . . Disney Channel has begun production on a new
Playhouse Disney preschool series entitled "Special Agent Oso," starring Academy
Award-nominated actor Sean Astin as the voice of Oso, a fuzzy, lovable, bumbling
special agent-in-training who enlists the help of viewers at home to complete his
missions. The announcement was made today by Nancy Kanter, Senior Vice
President, Original Programming, Disney Channel.
"Calling upon kids to use their observational skills and cognitive abilities, the series
will teach viewers how to organize and break down everyday tasks by using three
easy steps just as Oso does on his special agent training assignments," Kanter said.
"And as our lead Sean's warm and friendly voice quality really brings Oso to life.
He delivers the perfect balance between naiveté and bravado, creating a lovable
character who realizes that by putting one paw in front of the other, he's on the
verge of becoming the next world famous special agent."
The series, which pays homage to such special agent classics as "James Bond" and
"The Pink Panther," follows Oso, an endearing, yet slightly clumsy teddy bear who
works for U.N.I.Q.U.E. (United Network for Investigating Quite Usual Events), an
international organization of stuffed animals charged with helping kids accomplish
everyday tasks such as mailing a letter, cleaning their room and learning how to
use the library. Throughout every special assignment the accident-prone Oso
maintains a sunny outlook on life and an overflowing enthusiasm for his job with his
catchphrase "it's all part of the plan."
Each episode will consist of two 11-minute adventures featuring clever titles such
as "Gold Feather," "Live and Let Ride," "A View to a Book" and "Carousel Royale,"
and original music that references the classic spy genre in a kid-friendly way that
parents and caregivers will also enjoy.
At the beginning of each adventure, Mister Dos, a character who remains unseen,
provides Oso with an assignment and checklist. Oso relies on special vehicles;
gadgets; his computerized sidekick, Paw Pilot, a paw-shaped communication device
featuring the face and voice of a cheerful, bubbly girl; and most importantly,
viewers at home to complete the task at hand before the ever present ticking clock
runs out of time.
