FALL 2007 SCULLING CAMP FOR KIDS
For Boys and Girls Ages 8 – 16

The Saratoga Rowing Association is offering a 6-session fall sculling camp for boys and girls
ages 8 – 16 in September and October. Due to anticipated demand, we are offering two sessions
each Sunday morning, the first being held from 7 AM – 8:30 AM, the second from 8:45 AM –
10:15 AM.
There are ten (10) openings per session offered on a first-come first-served basis. Minimally,
scullers should have participated in either a previous Sculling Camp for Kid’s session, the SRA
Learn-to-Row Program, have rowed competitively, OR be a competent sculler in either a
recreational or racing single shell.
Receipt of full payment constitutes a confirmed spot.
Please feel free to contact Anne Schwartzman, SRA Business Manager, with any questions @

FALL 2007 SCULLING CAMP FOR KIDS
Fall on Fish Creek is a wonderful time to row; however, there are a few things to be aware of
that are applicable to rowing in September and October. The following is general information on
the program. As always, should you have any questions, please feel free to call Anne
Schwartzman, 587-6697, weekdays from 10 AM – 5 PM.

    1. All participants should be competent swimmers without assistance. If they have not
already done so, all participants will be required to successfully pass a “swim test”
consisting of treading water for 15 minutes and putting on a life jacket (PFD) while
       doing so.
    2. There may be much more rowing traffic on the water. All scullers must possess good
navigation skills and feel comfortable with their ability to stay “on pattern”. Both the
SRA Juniors Program and Skidmore College rowing teams may have shells on the water
       during these same times.
    3. Due to increased rowing shell traffic we will limit the number of scullers eligible for this
program to ten (10) per session. Scullers will be eligible on a first come-first served
       basis.
All sessions will be run from the Saratoga Rowing Association Community Boathouse
located at 543 Union Avenue (next to Boatworks Marina), Saratoga Springs, NY.
Punctuality is important. All shells will start launching by 7:35 AM and 9:20 AM,
       respectively, each Sunday morning session.
    4. Should demand exceed availability we will make every attempt to expand the program as
       our resources allow.
    5. All sessions will run rain or shine. Should we deem the water/weather conditions unsafe,
we will cancel or suspend all on-water activities. There are no refunds for cancelled or
suspended sessions. No enrollments will be pro-rated.
    6. Rowing in the September and October can present a vast array of temperatures and
weather conditions. Please dress appropriately – layer if necessary during colder
weather. Wear pogies (rowing gloves) if you are prone to cold hands (pogies are
available for sale on-line at www.saratogarowingcenter.com or by calling 584-7844).
Baggy or bulky clothes should be avoided. Wool socks are advisable in colder weather
as they offer warmth even if wet. Always carry plenty of drinking water. We
recommend caps or hats for both warmth (when appropriate) and sun protection.
Sunscreen should be applied prior to arrival. If you wear eyeglasses please use a
“croakie”. Wear socks and sneakers – some shells require socks only, others require both
socks and sneakers. Label all items with the rower’s last name.
    7. Athletic tape will not be provided – if you are prone to blisters please bring your own
athletic tape. It is best to “tape up” prior to arrival.

Receipt of your permission form, medical auth/ waiver, (not needed again if you
participated this spring or summer with SRA) and full payment must be received
to confirm a spot. US Mail Postmark or hand delivery date will determine date
received.
Hope to see you on the water this fall!
