Ron’s Report
Hello boys and girls. I want you to meet our newest member, Gordon Makey. Gordon, meet the Club. Gordon is a long
time Winchester collector who wouldn’t mind a chat with folks who have the same tastes. He lives in the Cariboo, at 108
Mile House, phone 250 791-6369. Give him a call you guys, at least to welcome him. Many thanks Gordon for your
generous donation.
It was my plan now to boost the March 8-9 show in Chilliwack. It’s filling up quickly. Even though we are going to have
more space and more tables, there will be a point where we’re full. So, with that thought in mind may I suggest that it’s
probably a good time RIGHT NOW to send in a table application. I’m going to try real hard to find a place for everyone!
We want this to be a howling success. That means we want all the floor space to be covered with tables filled with
priceless collector goodies, and of course, Charlie’s shotguns. I’ve heard down the gun show telegraph that we may even
see a few Winchesters.
Remember there will be camping on the park grounds. It’s $10 per night with no hook up or $17.50 hooked up. These
have to be booked with the Club and prepaid.
I’d hoped to give you a report in this newsletter on the Feb. 2-3 Edmonton Show but I can’t and here’s why. It all started
when cousin Grant called from Saskatchewan and told me about the extreme cold, blowing snow and poor visibility
driving. After talking to him I checked the weather channel and found that Edmonton was at least as bad. It caused me to
think it over, at least until the next morning. The next morning Don Beebe called from Chilliwack and told me about
blowing snow out there. So I know how miserable it is to drive in those conditions, I also hate being cold. In a quick
decision, I phoned daughter, Rhonna, and had her email the show chairman of my decision to cancel. I hate missing that
show it’s such a good show, but I also hate to be cold and drive in blowing snow. I had the van already loaded so I had to
haul all that heavy stuff back into the shop. Maybe next year it will be better weather.
Before reporting on the last show, here is something important to think about: on Saturday, March 8 after the show shuts
down for the day, the AGM is going to take place. Here is your chance to give your opinion on last year’s operation of
the Club. You can also stand for one of the offices that will have to be filled. In other words, this is what makes our Club
work. Offices to be filled are: President, now held by Ron Tyson, Vice-President, now Mike Wallace, Financial
Secretary, Jim Bennett, Secretary, Charlie Stewart, Sgt.-at-Arms, Al Amundson. There will also be some directors to be
elected. We encourage everyone who can to turn out for the meeting. They don’t last too long because we all want to
have our dinner.
Please remember boys and girls, this is your Club. You are the people who make the rules and set out guidelines. You
elect officers who are there to put your wishes into action. If they aren’t making the Club a comfortable place to belong,
well, you just vote them out of office. The AGM is the place this gets done. We hope to see a good turn out. Al
Amundson will announce where the meeting will take place late Saturday just before we close down.
The other day we, the Club, had a nice letter from Shirley Stocker of the CKNW Orphans’ Fund thanking all of us for our
donation to their drive in December. She, in fact, addressed us as “Dear Esteemed Members” and described our donation
as “generous.” I’m sure a few young lives are more comfortable now and just because of our Club!
Overheard in a recent gun show somewhere, two old gun traders, whose tables had been back to back for ages, were
having a conversation. One was saying, “I know we’ve been friends for a long time but I can’t remember your name.
Would you please tell what it is again?” The other old gent just glared and stared for a long time before finally saying,
“How soon do you need to know?”
There is a poster included this month for the March Show. It would be just great if you could put it up in a place that
others could read about the show. It would only take a minute.
Someone told me the February show would be a busy one, I thought, “yeah right!” I was wrong! It was busier than any
show we ever had in February. It was another show I couldn’t get around to see everything. So I came away just
knowing I missed many bargains. I wanted to ask Walter Viita how the roads were as he comes down from Kelowna for
the show. Our daughter, Lei, brought Jan down for an hour or so. Of course Jan was glad to see the crowd because she
2
knew so many of the people there. Everyone was glad to see Dave and Margaret Hardy back to work again. It was a long
time, too long, don’t do that again, Dave! Everything went like gang-busters. We’ve got nearly 300 tables booked for
March and more coming in every day. I guess everyone missed Frank Sargent. It’s the first time in 15 years that he’s
missed a show. Look after that cold, Frank, we don’t want this to get to be a habit! Harry Moon, I like your shirt! Club
member Dennis Robinson gave me a letter that is interesting. It’s about gun owners’ image and how a good image can
give gun owners like all of us honest gun enthusiasts a better public image. It will separate us from the so called “Gang
Bangers.”
If anyone could come out to Chilliwack about noon on March 7, Friday, and spare some time to help give out displayers
packs please call Dave at 604 880-4706 and volunteer. Thanks.
To William Clifford, Sidney, BC who just renewed his membership, many thanks for your donation.
I think that’s all for now boys and girls. See you all in Chilliwack. Until next time be good to each other.
Cheers,
Ron
Letter from Dennis Robinson (in part):
Karen and Dennis Robinson recently displayed Fast Draw in a segment of The Hour TV show which is aired throughout
Canada. As the host, George Strombopolous, after the show said: “I’ve never seen guns (used) in such a sweet way.”
The show has brought the sports of six-gunning shooting and guns in general a LOT of good publicity, not to mention
sympathetic support, judging from the many, many replies we have received.
Anyone else wishing to view the main part of the seg can do so by typing the following into their computer;

Also, the Thunderbird Fast Draw Club and the World Fast Draw Association will be helping to present the 2008
Canadian Fast Draw Championships, which will be held at the Aldergrove Agricultural Fair Festival, on July 26-27, this
year.
