Healthy School Status
Ash Green continues to be a Healthy School after the award of Healthy School Status
last November. The school is constantly looking for ways to improve attitudes
towards healthy eating and exercise.
During the Term, the school continued its successful sporting year.
Ash Green children have been very active, despite the weather, participating in many
Rowing – The Year 6 began their introduction to rowing, participating in three taster
sessions, followed by the ‘Go Row’ finals. This year again Ash Green won the local
race and moved on to the area final, where the children finished second.
Aquathlon – Children in Year 6 also participated in an Aquathlon at THS against 3
other schools from our Cluster. Ash Green children managed to medal in all of the
three distances but won 5 out of 6 in the longer distance event.
Athletics – Ash Green sent a very strong team of athletes to the Annual Northwood
athletics event. The children once again proved very successful with 14 of them going
on to represent the Stoke Town Team on what proved to be a very cold and wet July
night. Ash Green once again performed very well and we had 2 City Champions.
Netball - The team played a number of matches against other schools, playing very
well and gaining valuable experience for this coming year. Unfortunately the Netball
tournament was cancelled because of the bad weather.
Rounders and Cluster Games – were unfortunately cancelled because of the bad
‘Top Olympics’ – Some of the Year 5 children were invited to Northwood Stadium
where they represented ‘Russia’.
Swimming – Ash Green children participated in the City Swimming Gala, after
qualifying and winning the Town Gala. With so many excellent individual Ash Green
performances, Stoke Town won, again we had several City Champions from the
Cricket – The cricket season managed to take place and with no losses, Ash Green
were crowned as joint champions.
With lots more activities already organised for the forthcoming term, we look forward
to some more enjoyable experiences.
Thanks are given to the staff who gave up their time in these areas, particularly Mr
Ball and Miss James. Thank you also to all the parents who have given their support.
In the Summer Term, Ash Green children performed at the New Vic Theatre in a
workshop with number of invited artists in a project called ‘Black Voices’. Abbey
Hill also invited the workshop children to be in the audience for a performance by one
of their invited theatre groups.
The children from various year groups demonstrated their dances for the TOPs dance
course for invited teachers from around the City.
Year 6 children performed for their parents in their Leaver’s showcase showing much
of the work covered during the year through topics.
Thanks to Mrs De Wet and everyone for their support.
The choirs did not take part in any external performances during the summer term but
the children in Year 6 sang beautifully in their production for the parents.
Instrumentalists took part in a Festival of Music and Performing Arts with other local
schools at Trentham High School.
Thanks are given to Mrs Baskeyfield. We would also like to thank parents for their

The Parent Teacher Association continues to meet on a regular basis and organises
fund raising trips and social events for the benefit of the pupils, parents and staff of
the school. Last term this included a Quiz Night, the Fun Day and the Summer Family
Money raised through PTA activities comes back into school for the purchase of
equipment, school improvements and to subsidise school activities. Last year the PTA
donated £10,500 plus almost £1000 towards library books.
Treetops (Before School and After School Club)
The Club continues to be popular and on some days there is a waiting list. We are
fully staffed but we are still looking to appoint casual staff to help cover holiday
periods and absence. Treetops successfully moved into their own mobile where they
have better facilities and much more independence.
The school continues to be used by:-
‘Ziggy’ Youth Dance Group, The ‘Y Now’ Christian Group, Stoke City Football in
the Community, Stone Town Diamonds Football Club, ‘Treetops’ (Before and After
School Club), Stagecoach Music and Drama Group, ATT Productions Theatre Group
