Track I – CISM: Group Crisis Intervention
Saturday, March 1, 2008 & Sunday, March 2, 2008
The Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM): Group Crisis Intervention training program is designed
to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi component crisis intervention curriculum.
The two day course prepares participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services. In the program,
participants will learn about demobilizations, defusings, debriefings and crisis management briefings and will
practice defusings, debriefinga and crisis management briefings.
The CISM program will be taught to the standards developed by the International Critical Incident Stress
Foundation (ICISF) and according to the model developed by Dr. Jeffrey T. Mitchell, Ph.D. CTS and George S.
Everly, Jr. Phd. FAPM CTS. The lead instructors for this program will be Cheryl A. Walter and Ralph J. Cope.
Students who completed the two day program will receive formal recognition from the International
Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. This program has been rated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for
10 hours of Continuing Education (Other) for Basic and Advanced Life Support practitioners. You must
successfully complete the program in order to obtain the hours.
Track II - Prehospital Trauma Life Support
Saturday, March 1, 2008 & Sunday, March 2, 2008
The Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) course is a unique continuing education program created in
recognition of the real need in EMS education for additional training in the handling of trauma patients. This
program is designed to enhance and increase knowledge and skill in delivering critical care in the prehospital
environment. In the program, participants will learn to identify mechanism of injury; recognize life-threatening
injuries; relate pathophysiology to injuries; assess and manage trauma patients; and, perform appropriate
interventions. Included in the program, there are skill stations where the participants will practice the skills and
techniques taught. To successfully complete the program, participants must pass both a practical and written
examinations. Participants who successfully complete the program will receive formal recognition from the
American College of Surgeons. The lead instructor for the program will be George Kost, EMT-P.
This program has been rated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health for 16 hours of Continuing
Education (medical /trauma) for Basic and Advanced Life Support practitioners. You must successfully pass the
program in order to obtain the hours.
This project is funded in part under a contract with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Registration for Saturday, March 1st, and Sunday, March 2nd, will open at 7:30 a.m. All
programs on Saturday and Sunday will start promptly at 8:30 a.m.
Space is limited for all classes. To confirm a seat for any of the three tracks, please send
the completed registration form with payment to:

Registration received without payment cannot be guaranteed a seat in any of the programs.
Registration fee covers all refreshments, lunches and handouts. Registration deadline is Monday,
February 4, 2008.
Refund policy is as follows. Individuals who cancel prior to the registration deadline of
Wednesday, February 1st, will receive a total refund. No refunds or cancellations after February 1 st will
be given. If you need to cancel, you can substitute another individual. The Council must be notified
immediately. No shows at the seminar will receive no refunds.

Lodging
A block of rooms have been reserved for the seminar’s participants at the Comfort Inn,
710 South U.S. Highway 11/15, Selinsgrove. The rates are: $70.00 single/double/triple
occupancy. Please call the Comfort Inn at (570) 374-8880. Please tell the staff that you are
attending the Spring 2006 EMS Seminar offered by the Susquehanna E.H.S. Council, Inc. Cut
off date for making room reservations is February 22nd. Remember, you are responsible for any
and all room charges.
Smoking Policy
According to Susquehanna University’s officials, NO SMOKING is permitted in ANY building on
campus. You are permitted to smoke outside as long as you keep the area clean.
EMS Awards Banquet
Everyone is invited to the EMS Awards Banquet that will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the
Front Street Station in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. A. J. Heightman MPA EMT-P, Editor-in-Chief, JEMS,
will be the guest speaker. The cost is $20.00 per person which includes a hot buffet dinner and an evening of fun.
To make a reservation, please include $20.00 per person with your payment for the seminar. The evening’s
activities will start at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar with dinner at 7:00 p.m.
