2008 ONE-PAGE LEGISLATOR / CANDIDATE SURVEY
Alaskans have growing concerns about the costs of health care and access to providers. Please take a quick few minutes
to respond to this important survey to help voters understand your position on these crucial issues.
The results of this survey will be published and made available to the public prior to the November 4th election. If you
choose not to respond, the words “No Response Provided” will follow your name. To be included in the survey results,
please respond by Wednesday, September 26 at 12 noon.

1. I WOULD SUPPORT STATE FUNDING FOR (indicate degree of support)
a. A health care professions loan repayment and incentive program to help solve 1 2 3 4 5 6
the critical workforce shortage.
b. Community Health Centers to help cover increased costs associated with energy, 1 2 3 4 5 6
workforce, and uncompensated care so that the rising number of seniors,
uninsured, underinsured, and other Alaskans will have primary care access.
c. Expansion of the Community Health Center system in Alaska to reduce ER visits, 1 2 3 4 5 6
hospital stays, state Medicaid costs, and the general cost of health care in Alaska.
d. Increasing the number of children eligible for Denali Kid Care through 1 2 3 4 5 6
restoration of income level criteria to 200% of FPL (Federal Poverty Level).
e. Health promotion and prevention programs that will decrease the prevalence of 1 2 3 4 5 6
chronic disease and the financial cost associated with treating chronic illness.
2. I WOULD SUPPORT LEGISLATION THAT WOULD (indicate degree of support)
a. Expand the scope of practice for health care professions to the full extent of their 1 2 3 4 5 6
training to increase access and decrease health care costs.
b. Provide access to affordable health care coverage for all Alaskans. 1 2 3 4 5 6
c. Adopt nutrition standards of competitive foods sold at school that reflective 1 2 3 4 5 6
current nutritional science knowledge.
d. Relate to the procurement, use, storage, and handling of pesticides and broadcast 1 2 3 4 5 6
chemicals; and relating to notice and record keeping requirements pertaining to
pesticides to protect children and workers from harmful exposures to pesticides in
Alaska’s schools.
e. Relate to flame retardants and to the manufacture, sale, and distribution of 1 2 3 4 5 6
products containing flame retardants; relating to bioaccumulative toxic chemicals
to be phased out in all products manufactured and sold in the Alaska by a date
certain to protect the health of Alaskans.
f. Allow break times for employees who nurse a child to ensure the opportunity for 1 2 3 4 5 6
women to express milk and/ or breastfeed at work.
