Discussion Group - Tuesday
This page is to minute the key elements of your discussion with your triad and to help
you keep track of your shared learning.
What topics/areas are the foci of your discussion today?
Shared / individual teaching – US model
Detailed observation
Implications of differing attitudes of SEN and more able to use of ICT
What issue/area occupies the majority of your attention in today's meeting?
Interacting using an interactive classroom
SEN using ICT as Maths tool to perform tasks / More able using ICT as
presentation tool having used paper and pencil to do the Maths
SEN structure in the USA and use of ICT in management of SEN
What is the main outcome of the discussion? Can you identify strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats?
Once children have been identified there is more support and ICT resourcing to
enhance children’s learning.
Good use of accelerated reader Success maker & children managing their own
learning
Advantages of the virtual classroom – students who were familiar with virtual
classroom were able to use it with confidence when interacting with unknown
teacher.
Organisation of the class and how it is integrated – the children teach the children.
Children of different abilities used ICT differently when completing the same
tasks. More able used it as a presentation tool while SEN used it to help them to
aid them in the Maths task.

Discussion Group - Wednesday
This page is to minute the key elements of your discussion with your triad and to help
you keep track of your shared learning.
What topics/areas are the foci of your discussion today?
Resources
What issue/area occupies the majority of your attention in today's meeting?
Level of resourcing in different schools – model classroom have it all – others are
queuing to wait for theirs.
If a teacher gains a computer as an award they take it with them wherever they go.
Powerpoint is used as a tool across all phases – how can we use it more in UK –
doesn’t need projector – use big screen TV – cheap and cheerful!
Expectation of different schools affects children’s performance and attitude
towards IT.
Teachers developing use of e-board – already in use by St Matthew’s in UK
Resources can be borrowed from centre for projects.
www.cpsb.org – school board site – similar to KingsNet . Teachers wished
children could access work from home as well as school – we can already with
LGfL – we’re ahead of them!!
What is the main outcome of the discussion? Can you identify strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats?
Powerpoint – useful tool for many presentations across phases – implications of
time – preparation (US teacher have at least and hour a day planning and
preparation time!), staff capability – INSET required – build a bank of
presentations for teachers to share – KingsNet/LGfl? – expense of projectors/ -
don’t need them use TV
In UK school there may need to be additional power sockets or at least reposition
existing ones to accommodate technology – wireless networking would be
preferable – PCs can be moved to create temporary mini suites for class use.
