AJ Gottron Mrs. Vyas Senior Project September 7, 2011 For my second round of research I asked, “What color schemes and themes are appropriate when submitting a portfolio to colleges?” I asked this question because I know there is going to be a lot of competition when applying for schools and scholarships and I want my site to follow all the guidelines and really stand out over others. I found a really helpful article online called “Creating an Effective Online Portfolio: 40+ Tips, Tools, & Inspirations.” This was written by Rachel Arandilla and had a lot of information on my topic. In this article she explains the importance of an online portfolio. In this day in age, more people are going paperless and everything is done digitally online. Being a designer, this is an essential tool to have. She talks about the importance of making an “About Me” page to promote yourself and state what can do. She also talks about making the site user friendly and making it very easy for the clients to socially network with me. Another point to keep in mind is not to clutter the site with too many pieces of work. She said, “The goal is to simplify.” You don’t want to overwhelm the client with too much, just enough to give a message. This article was helpful in my research. It did not exactly answer my question but made me ask more questions off my topic and answered those. I found out the importance of a clean website with easy navigation, and I learned about the focus on social networking, and its impact on the clients. This research helps me with the designing process of my website and will help with the overall product in the end.
