Recipe-Spaghetti with Italian Meat Sauce & Garlic Bread for 2

Ingredients: Family size in brackets

15 mL oil (2 tbsp) 10 mL sugar (2 tbsp)

1 clove garlic (4) 1 mL pepper (1/2 tsp)

¼ large onion (1) ½ bay leaf (2)

2 mushrooms (8) 15mL Parmesan (1/4 cup)

½ stalk celery (2)

200 g ground beef (11/2-2 lb) 3 mL oregano (2 tsp)

300 mL canned tomatoes (2 28oz) 1 mL thyme (1 tsp)

50 mL tomato paste (2-5 ½ oz) 1 mL rosemary (1 tsp) Crush

50 mL water (1 ½ c) 1 mL marjoram (1 tsp)

50 mL red wine (optional) (1/2c) 1 mL basil (1 tsp)

3 mL salt (1tbsp) 1 mL savoury (1 tsp)

15 mL parsley (1/3 cup)



Note * First thing: put water on , saute hamburger then dice veggies

* Put pasta on when sauce starts to simmer



Method:

1. Dice garlic, onion, mushrooms and celery.

2. Heat oil in medium pot, medium heat.

3. Add diced garlic and saute until golden brown

4. Add diced onion, mushrooms & celery and saute until softened

5. In preheated frying pan, brown ground beef draining excess fat into a can

* Note: break ground beef into small pieces

6. Add hamburger, canned tomatoes, tomato paste and water to sautéed veggies.

7. Add crushed herbs, bay leaf, sugar, salt & pepper.

8. Blend well and bring to a boil

9. Immediately turn down to minimum, cover and simmer 25 – 30 min (or until slightly

thickened) – this also brings out the flavour of the herbs.

10. Remove bay leaf, stir in wine and Parmesan.

11. Simmer 5 min longer.

Spaghetti:

Ingredients:

113g spaghetti ( ¼ lb) 2 mL salt 5 mL oil









Method

1. Lightly grease the upper rim of large pot to help prevent boiling over

2. Bring large amount of water to a full boil .

3. Add salt and oil to the water.

4. Add pasta slowly so the water continues to boil. Spaghetti should be stood in the water

around the pot edge and pushed down as the rods begin to soften

5. Cook uncovered - 10 min or until al dente

which means tender but firm to the bite

6. When cooked, drain in a colander and transfer to heated plates.

7. Add sauce and serve immediately

Note: Do not rinse pasta because it washes away the nutrients.

Exception –if it is to be used for a salad rinse in cold water.





Garlic Bread:

15mL soft margarine 2 slices French bread

½ mL garlic powder 5 mL Parmesan

1. Mix together margarine and garlic powder.

2. Spread on French bread.

3. Sprinkle with Parmesan. If desired.

4. Place on cookie sheet under broiler for a few min. until golden brown

*Move oven rack to 2nd from top.

** Oven door must be left slightly open
