Burning From an
ISO File Lab
Name _______________
An ISO image (International Organization for Standardization) is an archive file (also known as a disc
image) of an optical disc, composed of the data contents of every written sector of an optical disc,
including the optical disc file system. ISO images can be created from optical discs, or can be used to
recreate optical discs. In this lab, we will use an ISO file to create a bootable CD. ISO image files
typically have a file extension of .iso. The name ISO is taken from the ISO 9660 file system used with CD-
ROM media.
The ISO file we will use is this lab will allow us to create “The Ultimate Boot CD.” After we extract the
ISO file, you will have a bootable CD that will have its own operating system, PC Trouble Shooting
applications and tools.
Steps for Burning the ISO
1) Login with an account that has administrative access.
2) Map Drive T: to \\ke\interns$
3) Create an ISO folder on the C: drive.
4) Copy the UBCD.ISO file from T:\ISO to C:\ISO. The ISO file is over 650 MB. So, it is important to
move the file to the local hard drive. If you did not move it to the local drive, you would likely
get many errors on your CD as it burns. The network would not be able to transfer the data fast
enough to keep up with the burning. This brings about a buffer underrun situation. So, PLEASE
make sure you move the ISO file to the local hard drive before going to the next step.
5) Run Roxio Creator DE from the Start Menu. You will select the Copy submenu.
a. Next, select Burn Disc Image to Disc
b. Browse to the ISO folder on the C: drive
c. Select the ISO file
