Jill Baker
Professional Development:
Appointed Dean of Business, Computer Studies and Technologies. Dr. Baker will assume
her new role on August 19, 2010.
Collaboration/Partnerships:
Collaborated with Director,Instructional Technology Services, SDSU regarding the
design of learning spaces.
Significant Accomplishments:
Served as Faculty Co-Chair for the Accreditation Self-Study at Mesa College; presented
in numerous forums; provided leadership for each of the self study standard coordinators;
researched and wrote "AV/IT Implications for Learning Spaces in New Building Design"
for the San Diego Community College District.
Presenting with Barbara Kavalier and Suzanne Flannigan at the League of Innovations
Conference in Feb. in San Diego -- Innovations 2011! The title of the presentation is
Culture and Leadership in the Community College.
Using skills and knowledge gained in the program, guided her institution through the
process of Strategic Planning.

2008 “Who’s Who” Amongst College and University Administrators,
North America
2008 Established first ever EOP/SDSU Guardian Scholars Program (Summer
2007) for former foster youth. Working with the Alex Smith Foundation,
the Hilton Foundation, and other donors, to award scholarships (annually)
to new freshmen and community college transfer students, as well as other
extensive support services. Also developed significant partnerships in
support of this program throughout our campus and region (Fall 2010,
62 students enrolled).
2008 Awarded 2008-2010 Grant – USDA Food Grant for low income freshman
and community college transfer students; providing nutritional
information and meals regarding healthy choices. Total funding over
$100,000.
Awarded first ever Aztec Parents Association Innovation Grant for Student
Services projects; 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Total Funding over
$75,000.

Significant Accomplishments:
Named Acting Vice-President of Academic Affairs for Summer 2009 and then the Acting
Senior Director of Institutional Research for 2009-10; currently directing GCCCD’s
participation in the California Leadership Alliance for Student Success (CLASS)
initiative for 2009-10; coordinated Grossmont College’s first science festival in March
2009.

Significant Accomplishments:
Served as the Interim Vice-President of student services at San Diego Mesa College from

Support Programs and Services for the San Diego Community College District; currently

With Terrie Nichols and Dan Curtis, served as part of a grant funded by the William and
Flora Hewlett Foundation run out of CRMSE at SDSU during spring 2009 entitled
"Faculty Collaborations for Course Transformations (FACCTS) for Developmental
Mathematics." The grant was run by Dr. Thomas Carey and we collaborated with
colleagues from San Diego City College, Grossmont College, Southwestern College and
San Diego Mesa College.

Collaborated with two colleagues from San Diego City College on our research for a
colloquium presentation.
Significant Accomplishments:
Worked with Cal-PASS to write a training manual for the SMART Tool; done trainings
for faculty, staff and administrators on using the SMART Tool.

Became a full-time English faculty member at Mesa College in Spring of 2009.

Contributed to the final language of the English rubrics for the new CB21 coding and
served as a consultant to WestEd in a project to align all the transfer level SLOs for
English 1A statewide; recently appointed Interim Dean, School of Humanities at Mesa
College.
