 9 A SENATE RESOLUTION
10
11 TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE FRANCIS HUGH
12 WARDLAW ACADEMY “LADY PATRIOTS” VOLLEYBALL
13 TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR
14 CAPTURING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT
15 SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP,
16 AND TO HONOR THE TEAM’S EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS,
17 COACHES, AND STAFF.
18
19 Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the Francis Hugh
20 Wardlaw Academy “Lady Patriots” volleyball team defeated
21 Coastal on October 27, 2008, to capture the 2008 South Carolina
22   Independent School Association Class A State Championship title;
23 and
24
25 Whereas, Coach Kathy James and Assistant Coach Christie
26 Warnken, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination,
27 built their volleyball program into a championship team and have
28 kept it that way; and
29
30 Whereas, excitement over this title win was especially intense
31 because everyone was waiting to see if the Lady Patriots could
32 duplicate a feat they achieved during the 1996 and 1997 seasons:
33 back-to-back state championships. These disciplined athletes did
34 not disappoint their supporters, and elated Wardlaw fans came
35 away from the game with the conviction that the Lady Patriots had
36 lost nothing in the translation from the 2007 team to the 2008 team
37 and started making plans to see the team do it again in 2009; and
38
39 Whereas, this crowning victory not only marks the team’s second
40 straight championship but also caps a superb season for Wardlaw,
41 a record that proves the team is a perennial powerhouse to be
42 reckoned with; and

     [823] 1
 1
2 Whereas, the Lady Patriots have brought great pride and
3 recognition to their school and community, and the Senate is
4 pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful
5 group of young women. Now, therefore,
 6
7 Be it resolved by the Senate:
 8
9 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution,
10 recognize and commend the Francis Hugh Wardlaw Academy
11 “Lady Patriots” volleyball team for its outstanding season and for
12 capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association
13 Class A State Championship, and honor the team’s exceptional
14 players, coaches, and staff.
15
16 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to
17 Headmaster Ben Couch and Coach Kathy James of Francis Hugh
18 Wardlaw Academy.
