PREFACE

The purpose of this handbook is to familiarize student athletes and guardians with the

purpose and vision of STANCO Basketball Club. It is our hope that this handbook will

function as a tool to connect a shared vision with our community and members of STANCO

Basketball Club.

The world is changing around us. To thrive as an youth basketball program over the next

five years and beyond, we must think about or plan for the future, understand athletic,

academic, and social trends that will shape our program in the future and move rapidly to

organize for what’s to come. That’s what our 2010 Vision is about. We will create a long-

term target for our organization and provide us with a “Plan” for success together with our

basketball colleagues.

Our Mission

Our Plan starts with our mission, which is lasting. It announces our purpose as a youth

organization and serves as the benchmark, which we consider our actions and decisions.

Our mission is to provide Stanislaus County with a high quality and competitive AAU

basketball program from 1st to 12th grade, which will foster social, emotional, academic, and

athletic growth.

Our Vision

Our vision serves as the framework for our “Plan” and guides all aspects of our organization

by describing what we will need to accomplish in order to achieve sustainable growth within

young athletes. STANCO’s vision is to be recognized and respected as one of the premier

Amateur Athletic Union Basketball program in California. Our program will foster social,

emotional, academic, and athletic growth and will be a great place to coach, teach, learn,

and obtain advanced basketball skills and to inspire all to be the best they can be. We will

nurture a winning mindset and encourage our athletes to be responsible citizens that are

capable of building and supporting our communities.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to STANCO ELITE BASKETBALL CLUB:

This packet has been provided to give you necessary information regarding our

organization. Enclosed you will find the policies and procedures for SEBC. You will also find

Officer and Board information. Every player, parent or guardian and program volunteer

must sign and return the signature page as an acknowledgement that they will adhere to

the code of ethics and understand the policies of the organization. We look forward to

working with you and your student athlete in making this a very successful program.

During the summer of 2009, Undrae Walker, Mike Tubbs, and Donavan Frank decided to

move boldly to pursue a dream of starting an AAU basketball program that would offer more

opportunities within our community. Although we understood there were a couple of high

performing AAU choices for girls and boys in the area, there still appeared to be a need for

quality AAU coaches who have various experience at the collegiate and high school level. It

is our hope to bridge gaps between AAU and high school ball, which ultimately should

improve player performance. This shared philosophy has resulted in the formation of

Turlock House of Hoops.

Turlock House of Hoops is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with focus on the growth of

youth basketball in our community and surrounding areas of Stanislaus County. As a result

our teams will represent Stanislaus County as STANCO ELITE BASKETBALL CLUB. We

believe development of basketball in our area is a shared responsibility, commitment, and

honor. We welcome all inquires and hope you consider our program.

About The Program

We are a 501(3)(c) Non-Profit, competitive basketball program that focuses on advanced

skills, learning, sportsmanship, hard work and the love of the game. The instruction

regimen includes practice sessions and scrimmage games. Most of our coaches are local high

school coaches and assistants. We aim for teaching the advanced fundamentals of the game,

speed, agility, and quickness.

Our Philosophy

Involvement in an AAU basketball program should be a positive experience for coaches,

parents and most importantly players. The AAU philosophy of “sport for sports sake”

supports this expectation. STANCO ELITE BASKETBALL CLUB strives to assist the young

student athlete in the development of skills and a healthy approach of mind, body, and the

spirit of the sport. We put emphasis on repetitive skill acquisition, discipline and teamwork.

Players will be asked to prioritize school before sports with a committed understanding to be

young role models within our communities. Turlock House of Hoops believes basketball is a

tool that should be used to improve educational opportunities.

Our Team Is A Community

The team is built around a “community” concept, where parents, high school coaches,

basketball consultants, players, and volunteers are asked to be active participants in

basketball development and team activities. It was the community of Turlock that drew our

hearts near. We hope to maintain positive relationships with vested members of basketball

advancement in this area. We also will do our best to work with parents by setting up car

pool schedules that help you share the burden of transporting your child to-and-from games

and practices. It is our plan to have fundraisers and host a series of fundraising tournaments

– for which parents are required to volunteer. Participation of parents is a requirement of

team membership to offset your child’s cost.

STANCO Coaches

This organization seeks out coaches who have a firm grip of basketball fundamentals,

competitive coaching experience for tournament play, and the ability to instruct athletes to

enhance their awareness of the game. Our coaches understand STANCO is not about making

NBA players, although we hope each player will improve to display advanced basketball skills.

The goal of STANCO coaches is to take 8 – 12 players who are serious about basketball and

help them find ways to have fun, compete, learn, develop, and be challenged, work hard, and

grow to be as good as they want to be. The volunteer coaches are devoted to the

fundamentals of basketball. This means a completed dedication to emphasizing defense, ball

handling, shooting, transition, passing, footwork, so that we facilitate our youth to become a

complete basketball player.

Financial and Participatory Commitment

Parents are responsible for covering the cost of their child’s participation in the program. If

fundraisers are available, working at various fundraising activities can offset some of the

cost. Some fundraising activities may include STANCO home tournaments, tri-tip

sandwiches and/or carwashes. Each player has an “Account” against which membership

dues and fund-raised dollars are applied. These funds provide for:

Player Cost Per 1O: STANCO ELITE PROGRAM ESTIMATE

1. AAU CARD $14

2. TEAM DUES $25

3. EQUIPMENT $25

4. (2) CAMPS Nike $100

5. UNIFORM HOME&AWAY $100

6. SIX TOURNAMENTS Per 10 players $180

7. DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE included

8. SHOES $81

TOTAL: $525

Please be advised the fee structure listed above is an estimate and actual cost may differ due to

various planned or unplanned reasons. Reasons for changes in the estimated cost may be a

result of a change in the number of players on each team, cost of tournaments, number of

tournaments, and vendors used for team gear.

Additional Cost

Additional costs such as travel to and from games or practice, food, gas, and entry fees to

games are not included. STANCO and its’ sponsor Turlock House of Hoops is not responsible for

such cost. These costs are not calculated within the fee structure of STANCO and as a result

are the primary responsibility of each participant/parent(s) and or guardian.

Dues Cost: $20.00 annually (Donation)

Club membership dues seed each team’s bank account and provide enough funds to get the

program started each year. The club membership dues are credited toward your annual

financial commitment. Players who are not current with dues will not be allowed to

participate in practices and games, and may forfeit their spot on the team roster. Payment

arrangements are available. Sponsorship moneys can be applied toward dues.

Tournaments

To Be Determined (TBD)

Our club will host 2 local tournaments during the season, typically in the spring and summer.

Eventually STANCO will coordinate 2 spring and 2 summer tournaments to cover and or

reduce player cost.

All player parents are required to participate 4 to 6 hours per tournament in helping

plan, coordinate, run, and clean up equally with other parents. Failure to work an

equal number of hours will result in players being released from the playing

squads.

Sponsorships

Our team is a 501(3) c non-profit organization. Having non-profit status allows us to solicit

local businesses and organizations to obtain tax-deductible donations to manage and run the

team. Sponsorship money will be directly credited toward your financial commitment.

Donations

Donations of gymnasium time and equipment will be greatly appreciated. Most gyms demand

current market rate (hourly $50.00). If you are able to secure a church or organization

gymnasium, please let us know.

Practices

The teams conduct two-hour practices in order to teach and keep players in basketball

shape. The number of practices varies by team and age group, as well as by the time of

year. Players must attend practices to earn playing time. Missing practice equates to losing

playing time. The coaches provide guidance to help the kids learn valuable drills that they

need to PRACTICE AT HOME in their spare time.

Competition

The teams will participate in scrimmages, tournaments, leagues and other events in order to

foster a love for the game and provide a forum in which kids can apply the skills they've

learned and participate in a competitive environment. Our goal is to be competitive, set

goals, and improve each game. The team management will work hard to find compatible /

competitive teams with which we can scrimmage and play games.

How The Teams Are Structured

We attempt to field teams of 8 to 10 players. Player are evaluated by our coaching staff and

or recommended for tryout by area coaches.

TEAM SELECTIONS

Team Selections

Our teams are selected through a consensus of our entire coaching staff. Players are selected

based on their athletic performance, their attitude on and off the court, and overall dedication to

developing their game. Players will be notified of their selection to the STANCO within 48 hours

after the final tryout dates.

Options For Players Not Selected

Tryouts can be a difficult experience. One of the toughest jobs for any coach is the final decision

about which players make the team, and those who do not. STANCO coaching staff strives to

make all decisions fairly, without bias, and after extended deliberation and evaluation of each

prospective member. If your child or children are not selected to join a STANCO travel team,

there are other options available that might improve your chances in the future.

1. STANCO Development Program: The STANCO Development Program allows a player

to become a provisional club member without being assigned to a specific roster. This

program is available for players that are not selected for a roster, players that are unable

to commit to a team's intensive schedule, players that join the club in mid-season,

players age 10 and under, or players that are recommended for this program by a

coach. Developmental players may attend all practices, skill sessions, and non-team

events/activities (3 on 3, clinics), and may have the opportunity to serve as an alternate

if a team needs an extra player.

2. Join Another Team/Club: By joining another team, you will have the opportunity to

continue working on your skills in a competitive environment while striving to improve the

deficiencies you exhibited in the STANCO tryout.

STANCO FUNDRAISING

Dear Prospective Sponsor,

We are kicking off our 1st year of the “Turlock House of Hoops Travel ball program.”

Our travel teams will represent Stanislaus County and surrounding areas. We urgently request

your help for this year’s campaign. As our year round season begins so does our fund raising

events. Our goal is to raise money so that travel necessities, tournament, gym and referee fees,

as well as equipment and uniform cost can be subsidized by various donations for our team’s

participation at the Amateur Athletic Union competitive level. Our teams will travel throughout

the state of California and Nevada. If the opportunity presents itself we will have the chance to

play nationally. We hope our program will grow with the combined efforts of dedicated

volunteers, community members and parents that can pave the way for a strong, successful

club.

Our coaching staff and directors are committed to see that our children are trained by

dedicated individuals whom will foster an environment emphasizing productive sportsmanship,

athletic excellence, physical and mental discipline, self-esteem, leadership, and most

importantly high academic requirements. The commitment is essential in order for each player

to reach his or her potential. We encourage student excellence though hard work, dedication,

listening, communication and devotion to the sport of basketball.

We appreciate any type of contribution to our program either monetary, or goods and

services. Thank you for considering the “STANCO ELITE Basketball Club” for sponsorship. If

you can help us out in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
