System Utilities, Scrn-Prt, and Digital Photo handling
Download and edit digital photos:
○ connect your camera to the PC's USB port and using Windows File
Explorer copy twenty or more photos to a folder named Digital-
pics (make one) in your SCOOP directory.
or
○ copy the Digital-pics directory from the Our Classes CD to your
SCOOP directory.
○ Open a photo with MS Paint, Save As into SCOOP directory with
meaningful name.
▪ reduce the file size to make for easier e-mailing
(use Image-Stretch and Skew 30%)
▪ Save as the picture with 30 at end of name.
○ Open the picture with Corel Photo House.
▪ adjust contrast and darkness as needed
▪ rotate photo as needed
▪ remove red-eye effect as needed
Capture and print screen:
○ Use Windows File Explorer to list the files in the Digital-pics
folder in your SCOOP directory.
○ change the view of the picture files to "Thumbnails" "Tiles" or
"Icons" as needed.
○ increase the number of picture files on the screen by Maximizing
the screen and sliding the vertical divider bar to the left.
○ press the Prt Scrn key on the keyboard. A snapshot of the screen
is sent to the clipboard.
○ Open MS Word.
- Press [Enter] three times.
- Press the up-arrow once.
- Paste: press the Ctrl-V key sequence or single-left-click
Paste on the Edit button on the Menu bar, or single-right-
click and then single-left-click Paste on the drop-down list.
The snapshot of the screen is pasted on the page.
- Single-left-click the snapshot to select it. Picture "handles"
will appear at the sides and corners of the picture.
- Single-right-click on the picture. Single-left-click "Format
picture…" in the drop-down window.
- On the "Picture" tab, change the numbers in the Left, Right,
Top and Bottom "Crop From" windows.
- Single-left-click "OK".
- Re-adjust cropping as required.
- Return to the Windows File Explorer Digital-pics screen.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the view of Digital-pics.
- Prt-Scrn the bottom half of the Windows File Explorer screen
into the Word document.
- Adjust its cropping as required.
- print the Word document.

Zip or compress files:
▪ for MicroSoft's zip support: download, read and follow
XP Zip support 1 or XP Zip support 2.
or
▪ for another commercially supplied file compressor/decompressor:
download and save justzipit.exe into your SCOOP directory.
Then install it on your computer by double-clicking on it.
Compress and then decompress MS WORD documents (files with
extension ".doc") in the SCOOP directory. Note and compare the
file size of the compressed and uncompressed files.
Windows System Backup utility:
You can use the Windows System Backup utility to backup all or
selected files on your computer and/or its System state.
First, choose and/or create the destination of the backup --the
name and location of the file into which you intend to backup
files-- before you start:
Using Windows File Explorer, create a folder for your
backup, either on your computer's secondary internal
hard disk ("D:\") or on an external hard disk.
Next, start the Windows System Backup Wizard, if it exists on your
PC:
- Single-left-click "Start" at bottom-left corner of screen.
- hover over All Programs;
- hover over Accessories;
- hover over System Tools;
- single-left-click Backup.
If "Backup" is not there, do the following: download
file ntbackup.msi from the Internet and execute it.
The Windows System Backup Wizard will start.
