Americans are asked to devote the fourth Saturday of October (October 24, 2009) to helping others. It is a day where organizations (such as 4-H) join together to clean up their communities, mentor children, repair parks or community facilities, help the elderly and touch many lives. This would be a good time for any of our local 4-H Clubs to do a community service. Make a Difference Day New Leader Orientation Dates Set Monday, September 21, 2009, and Monday, October 19, 2009, are the dates for the leader orientation meetings. Each meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. in the 4-H Office. Please contact the 4-H Office if you have any questions. I have sincerely enjoyed the past two and a half years working with the members and leaders of a program that has been incredibly rewarding to me, personally and professionally. I will be moving on to the teaching credential program at California State University, Chico, and doing my student teaching at Red Bluff High School. I will no longer be able to devote the time and energy this position requires and deserves. My last day will be July 29. I appreciate you and the opportunities I have had while working for Glenn County 4-H and the University of California. Best of luck to all of you as you start the new 4-H and school years! Also, my best wishes to the new 4-H Program Assistant Jamie Marron. I’m sure she will be great! Note From Program Assistant Jessica (Jorgensen) Campbell National 4-H Week October 4-10, 2009 Any 4-H club or group that plans to have a window display or activity during National 4-H Week (Oct. 4-10) needs to contact the 4-H Office as to where the display or activity will be by September 15, 2009, in order to be judged. Club Achievement Nights There will not be a specific night assigned to each club for their Achievement Night. Each club can decide which date is best for them. Let the office know ahead of time the number of year pins and stripes, officer pins, etc. needed for your Achievement Night. NEW TO ROUNDUP! NEW TO ROUNDUP! This is a great opportunity for 4-H members and volunteers to share with the public their 4-H experiences, as well as, the wide range of projects and leadership opportunities that are available to youth through participation in the California 4H Youth Development Program. Small 4-H projects are welcome to accompany you (robots, rabbits, arts/crafts, service dogs, etc.) to give the public a "feel" for what types of projects are available. Examples of service projects also make for good stories to share with the public. Please feel free to bring photo albums or record books with you to show anyone who may be interested in learning even more about your 4-H project. Parking passes and fair admission tickets will be provided to 4-H members and adults who sign up for a 2-hour shift. A maximum of 4 youth and 2 adults per shift will be allowed. Further, each shift must have an adult or older teen in the booth at all times. To sign-up, please visit http://www.ca4h.org/wrp/statefair/. The Fair will award $50.00 cash to the person submitting the winning theme and will provide two (2) season tickets to the Fair and one book of Carnival ride coupons. He or she will be introduced at the beginning of the Miss Glenn County Pageant and will be given the cash award at that time. Entrants are encouraged to submit as many theme ideas as they wish. The Fair Board of Directors will select the winner at their September 15, 2009, Board meeting. Deadline for submitting entries is September 1st.
