Dear Parents and Community Families:

Our students at the Academy of Performing Arts are encouraged to prepare for secondary education, which
entails maintaining advanced proficiency levels in all content areas as well as their arts majors.

Our staff affords the opportunity for all students to develop their artistic and academic skills through an
interdisciplinary approach to learning. The Paterson Public Schools educational programs encompass the
scope and sequence of learning at the Academy of Performing Arts with a standard based curriculum.

Strong emphasis is placed on the use of technology project based learning and cultural diversity within the
curriculum framework. We are a uniform school with 100% participation. There is zero tolerance for
disciplinary problems at our school. Students attending the Academy of Performing Arts are required to
attend each performance and are graded on their attendance performance role.

Students, parents, teachers and stakeholders are allowed to exchange ideas toward increasing the efficacy
of educational excellence and art awareness throughout the city of Paterson and neighboring communities.
Their learned and innate talents are expanded with a knowledge base that will allow them to compete in
any secondary setting. We invite you to become actively involved toward the growth and development of
your child’s lifelong learning that continues within our school. Thank you for your continuous support for
our children in the city of Paterson. Please adhere to the process below to insure your application is
completed for review. The process is as follows:

ADJUDICATION PROCESS
Step I School Choice Application Completed by April 8, 2009
Step II APA Application Completed by March 2, 2009
Step III Students will be notified of audition date and time
Step IV Parents and Artistic Coach/ Private Teacher prepare student for audition
Step V Parents will accompany students to audition at the Academy of Performing Arts
Step VI Receipt of letter of Not Accepted or Accepted
Step VII Introduction of Incoming Students at Spring Concert – Concert Attire required
Step VII Registration with letter of acceptance June 2009

                 ARTISTIC GENRES at the ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS

Students are directed toward a knowledge base for both innate and learned artistic abilities. The innate
abilities in the arts are often visible during a child’s toddler years and can be fine tuned throughout their
developmental years. A most competent staff conducts the varying levels of ability among our students
with a unique style of formal study in each of the disciplines listed below. This is done through an
interdisciplinary approach to learning. Realizing further that all content areas must utilize data to reflect
assessment for learning, we strive toward 100% proficiency. The assessment for learning is a key factor in
the overall education process and enables students to monitor their learning progress and teachers to adapt
their instruction toward the specific needs of the students. We are committed to the highest quality
education for all students and strive continuously toward academic excellence.
   ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ALL PERFORMANCES AT APA

DRAMA:

MEDIA RELEASE FORM – STUDENT

Permission to permit the Paterson Public School District to use student
photo/video/audio on the website and for other district events, promotions and
related activities.

grant permission to the Paterson Public School District and/or its designated
representative to permit my child’s picture to be taken, or likeness used on the
district’s website or to be otherwise utilized by the district in regard to the
district’s approved events and activities including use of name, voice, and/or

virtue of distortion, optical illusions, or faulty mechanical reproductions.

        STUDENT INTERNET ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
The Internet is an educational resource connecting millions computers and computer use from all
over the world. Use of the Internet for educational projects will assist in preparing success in life
and work in the 21st Century. Educators agree it is important that students well informed of the
Internet’s capabilities, as well as how to use it responsibly. The Paterson Public Schools
recognize the need to safeguard our pupils, while enriching our core curriculum.

        Pupils will use the Internet for educational purposes only, under the supervision of a
         teacher.

        Pupils will not access inappropriate material on the Internet. If any sites are accessed,
         they will use the “Back” button to quickly escape the site. Pupils will inform the teacher
         of any situations so that he/she may handle it appropriately.

        Pupils will not give out any unauthorized personal information including: name, home
         address, phone number, age, race, family income, school name or location friends’
         names or credit card information.

        Pupils will never arrange a meeting with someone they meet on the Internet.

        Pupils will not interfere with other people’s computer work.

        Pupils will be considerate of copyright laws and will not download or plagiarize any
         information that they find on the Internet.

        Pupils will not download, install or modify any software on the computers without the
         authorization and supervision of a teacher.

        Pupils will act as a responsible, considerate, respectable citizen when on-line.

        Pupils accept the consequences assigned to them from the school faculty/administration if
         they fail to abide by this agreement.

        Pupils and their parents/guardians will sign an Internet Acceptance Use Agreement
         including these policy provisions.

                            Parental/Guardian Consent Form

As you are aware, there are potential dangers associated with the posting of personal
