							Welcome to the Charities Information Bureau South & West Funding Alert. Working
with the South Wiltshire Funding Advice Service, the aim of this alert is to distribute
relevant funding opportunities to voluntary groups and community organisations in
Salisbury District. We hope you find it useful!

Double check that you have included all the requested documents, such as
accounts or a copy of your constitution, that a funder has requested to see with
your application .




The following charitable trusts and funders have recently been updated from new
information we’ve received. Of particular interest this week, please note:

      PERFORMING RIGHT SOCIETY FOUNDATION - AWARD TO FESTIVALS -
       The scheme offers a contribution towards a festival's overall budget. Deadline: 6
       February.

Funders Overall Aim:
To give the opportunity for community or charitable organisations across the country to each
win an award worth of B&Q products to help regenerate local areas. Also, B&Q is offering
two awards of combined cash/products to schools who submit innovative science-based
proposals, showing a real understanding about the environment and the importance of
tackling climate change.

Funding Type:
1 winner of £10,000, 4 winners of £5,000, 35 winners of £2,000/ worth of B&Q products.

Funding For:
*The environment/energy saving: projects which will help contribute to the health of the
planet through the reduction of energy use or an active effort to limit their environmental
footprint.
*Natural habitats and wildlife: projects which will support, protect and celebrate the natural
habitats in local communities including community gardens, meadows, wetlands, chalk rivers
and forests.
*Local culture/heritage: projects which will support, enhance and celebrate valuable aspects
of local culture and heritage including its roots and traditions, local buildings, local building
techniques, local produce and local arts and crafts.
*Grow your own: projects which will grow produce and involve the local community.

Funding NOT For:
Private individuals for private projects(e.g. An individual looking to make their home energy
efficient.)

Who Can Apply:
Any community-based organisations such as environmental groups, charities, schools, local
sports clubs, disability and youth groups.

How To Apply:
Application form available through website or by telephoning abve number and send to the
above address.

When To Apply:
Apply for an award between Monday 26th January and Friday 27th March 2009, The work
must be undertaken from Monday 22nd June and completed by Friday 25th September 2009

Funders Overall Aim:
To support projects that encourage a fair, equal, peaceful and democratic society

Funding Type:
The average size of a Trust grant is about £25,000 over a twelve month period. They also
make small grants of up to £3,000, most of the grants provide project funding but may also
fund development, research and core costs.

Funding For:
*Young Adults and Criminal Justice - Helping young adults who are in, or at risk of being in
the criminal justice system, to make a successful transition to adulthood and improve their
life chances.
Key areas of work are:
-Setting up Transition to Adulthood (T2A) Teams
-Funding pioneering approaches
-Improving education and employment opportunities for young adults with convictions
-Supporting the Community and Voluntary Sector
-Also are particularly keen to support groups working with mental health and drug and
alcohol abuse, resettlement and employment, improving life chances. Priority will be given to
West Midlands groups.

*Inclusive Communities - Alleviating poverty and exclusion among marginalised groups
Key areas of work are:
-Cities in Transition
-A Progressive Approach to Migration
-Independent Living for Disabled People - (no unsolicited requests for independent living in
2008/09)
-Supporting the Voluntary and Community Sector

Funding NOT For:
Activities that central or local government is responsible for; Animal welfare; Arts and cultural
projects; Capital (including equipment); Corporate subscription or membership of a charity;
Endowment funds; (unless we have a long-term relationship); Environment ; conserving and
protecting wildlife and landscapes; Expeditions, overseas travel, scholarships or gap years;
Funding to replace a shortfall from other funders; Fundraising events or activities; General
appeals; Homelessness projects; Hospitals and health authorities; Individuals; Loans or
business finance; Medical research and equipment; Promoting religion; Renovating
buildings; Schools, colleges and universities; Sponsorship or marketing appeals; Sporting
activities.

How To Apply:
Initially submit an expression of interest. Full details of what to include are included on the
website.

When To Apply:
No deadlines, Trustees usually meet three times a year to consider applications.

Our priority is to fund grassroots, user-led projects. We favour those projects that are likely to
have a high impact on social change, either at a policy or practice level. We look for visionary
projects, often those that are considered radical or risky and we place great emphasis on
projects that are backed by strong leadership.


LEASE OF LIFE - SMALL GRANTS FUND

Funders Overall Aim:
A joint fund between Wiltshire County Council, Wiltshire and Swindon Activity and Sports
Partnership (WASP) and Help the Aged.

Funding Type:
Grants of up to £300 are available for equipment and revenue costs ( ie trainers, tutors,
transport)

Funding For:
You can apply for many things and all applications will be considered on their merits. The
Panel is particularly looking for applications that aim to get older people (55years +)
physically and socially active. Also you need to demonstrate that the funding will directly
benefit older people.

Funding NOT For:
Individuals, work usually undertaken by statutory agencies such as the local council or health
authority; Membership fees for clubs or individuals; trips; running costs such as heating,
lighting and rent.

Who Can Apply:
Groups and organisations working with older people and are actively involved in
promoting/increasing physical activities. Must have a constitution and a bank account.

How To Apply:
Contact the above for an application form and return at least one week before before the
funding panel meeting.

When To Apply:
The funding panel, made up of local statutory and voluntary organisations and older Wiltshire
residentsmeet three times a year to review applications and decide how funding is to be
allocated. Next meeting is in April 2009. Contact Jayne Funnell for confirmation of date.

PERFORMING RIGHT SOCIETY FOUNDATION - AWARD TO FESTIVALS

Funding Type:
Two levels of awards: up to £3,000 and awards over £3,000. The scheme offers a
contribution towards a festival's overall budget, including running and administration costs

Funding For:
It supports festivals that challenge musical boundaries by programming ground-breaking
music; develop new audiences for new music while keeping existing ones stimulated;
generate opportunities for the creation of new music, eg through commissioning or the
provision of creative workshops and education projects; work collaboratively with other
organisations; and are financially stable and effectively managed. Your festival must be
taking place after 15 April 2009 (for February deadline) or 14 October 2009 (for August
deadline)

PRSF will favour applications from festivals which, across all areas of their work:
*have a strong track record of programming new music by music creators living/working in
the UK
*focus on showcasing new repertoire/songwriting talent/unsigned bands
*are non-commercial festivals (i.e. registered charities, not for profit festivals)
*are aiming to present new music in an understandable and exciting way to as wide an
audience as possible
*are innovative and adventurous in their programming/presentation
*encourage composition/songwriting projects, workshops, masterclasses etc.
All festivals regardless of their nature are able to apply for a particular aspect of their festival
which is relevant to the PRS Foundation. However in this case, they must show a major
commitment to new music, ideally providing evidence of a discernible 'new music strand'
within their programme.

Funding NOT For:
Festivals cannot apply for single performances or projects. PRSF is unable to support
festivals which are running for the first time. Your festival must have at least one year's track
record.

Who Can Apply:
Not-for-profit festivals in the United Kingdom that are programming new music by UK-based
music creators.

How To Apply:
Guidelines and Application form available from website on contact the above number for a
hard copy. Please note that you will need to send 3 copies of your application.

When To Apply:
By 6 February 2009 and 12 August 2009. Awards are made through two rounds each year.

*Your performance group has a track record of at least a year

Funders Overall Aim:
To support projects that engage the public with biomedical science through the arts. The
scheme aims to: stimulate interest, excitement and debate about biomedical science through
the arts; examine the social, cultural and ethical impact of biomedical science; support formal
and informal learning; encourage new ways of thinking; encourage high quality
interdisciplinary practice and collaborative partnerships in arts, science and/or education
practice.

Funding Type:
Funding can be applied for at two levels: Small to medium sized projects (up to and including
£30,000) and large projects (above £30,000). Applicants can apply for any amount within the
above boundaries, for projects lasting a maximum of three years.

Funding Total:
4.2 million

Funding Year:
2002/03

Funding For:
All art forms are covered by the programme: dance, drama, performance arts, visual arts,
music, film, craft, photography, creative writing or digital media. Applications are invited for
projects which engage adult audiences and/or young people.

Funding NOT For:
No employee or Governor of the Wellcome Trust may apply. Applicants or activities outside
UK or EIRE.

Who Can Apply:
Applicants are usually affiliated to organisations, but can apply as individuals. The scheme is
open to a wide range of people including, among others, artists, scientists, curators,
filmmakers, writers producers, directors, academics, science communicators, teachers, arts
workers and education officers. Organisations may include: arts venues, museums and other
cultural attractions, arts agencies, production companies, broadcast media, schools, local
education authorities, universities and colleges, youth clubs, community groups, research
institutes, the NHS, science centres. Activity must take place in UK or EIRE.

How To Apply:
You must read the guidelines before completing the application form. These can be
downloaded from their website, or requested by telephone or email. Forms should be sent to
our postal address, marked for the attention of Arts Awards.

When To Apply:
For small to medium sized projects the deadline is 9th January, 3rd April and 31st July 2009.
Decisions will be made 3 months after the deadline. For large projects the deadline is 23rd
January 2009 (decisions will be made approx five months after the deadline).

       forward planning, budgets and action planning).

    2. Delivery of the fundraising strategy (covers types and names of potential funders, ways in
       which approaches and applications can be made)

    3. Making funding applications (includes the finer detail of putting together a successful
       application/funding bid).
    4. Securing support from Local Business: (includes advice on types of company giving,
       when and how to make approach businesses and which businesses to ask).
    5. Making the most of your money: (includes gift aid, tax relief, bank accounts, reserves
       policies )
    6. Charity Regulation: (includes constitutions, charity registration, roles and responsibilities of
       trustees).

Each package can be tailored to suit your needs, the ability level of participants, specified
themes or topics

All training can take place at morning, lunchtime, afternoon or evening session or expanded to cover a
whole day. Weekend delivery is possible.

Big Thinking Event - Wednesday 19 February 2009 10am-4pm

Big would like to invite you to Big thinking, a dynamic and interactive event for the South West.

This event held by the Big Lottery Fund is the consultation on their strategy for 2009 – 2015 in the
South West. This is your opportunity to tell them what you think and help them decide where Lottery
money can make the biggest difference in the region.

You will join a mixed audience drawn from across the region to discuss funding issues, share your
ideas and answer some of the key questions Big have identified as important in shaping the way
forward. There will also be an opportunity to view examples of where funding has made a difference in
the South West.

The main focus of the day will be on your participation and interaction in the proceedings. To help Big
achieve that we will have a team of expert facilitators on hand to work with you and capture your input
in real time. We want to know what you think!

Lunch and refreshments provided. The event will be held in Exeter.
