Welcome to 8th grade Earth and Space Science. This year you will explore astronomy, geology,
meteorology, and oceanography. I look forward to sharing with you the exciting world of Earth and Space
Every member of my classes will respect their fellow students, the personal property of others, the
teacher and the school.
You will arrive on time to class, and will be in your assigned seat when the bell rings. When the
bell rings you should be working on your bell ringer assignment which will be posted on the board
each day. If you are late to class you will be marked tardy. If you are late 3 times (unexcused) in
a marking period a detention will be assigned.
Assignments are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Any assignment turned in after that
will be considered late and will start at ½ credit. Additionally points may be lost for lack of
quality or completeness. After five school days of lateness, no points will be awarded.
(Remember – any score is better than a zero!)
Everyone will do their own work. Any student caught cheating on any assignment will receive a
zero on that assignment. This includes both the person who is cheating as well as the person they
are cheating off of. I take cheating very serious and will immediately contact your parents or
Every member of the class is expected to fully participate in class activities.
Every student will keep a notebook where they will complete their bell ringers, keep their notes,
record their labs and complete their homework assignments. The note book will be organized as
per my directions with each page being numbered. Additionally each student will have a folder
with 3 prongs and two pockets to keep their loose work, completed quizzes and any laboratory
Organizational skills are very important in your educational and follow on careers; I will stress
organization with you through out our year together.
All written work will be done in black or dark blue ink or pencil. Assignments written in any
other color (including metallic) will be returned to you un-graded and considered late.
You are expected to come to class with all necessary material including your notebook, text book,
folder and writing utensil. Points will be deducted from your participation score for not being
prepared. (Everyone in class will start out with 25 points for participation)
No food, candy or drinks will be allowed to be brought by the student into the classroom( as per
All school rules and policies listed in the Student Handbook will be followed in this class.
I have provided an additional handout with my grading policy, the only addition to this is that each
student is responsible for maintaining their own record of grades. A tally sheet will be provided for you as
well as grades being posted on parent portal which can be accessed via our schools web page,
