                           JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                  DESIGN INTERN

RESPONSIBLE TO:             Design & Communications Coordinators

JOB PURPOSE:                Working closely with the relevant staff, Elected
                            Directors, and Student Directorate Officers to
                            create/reinforce an appropriate visual identity for
                            Platform Magazine and Nottingham Trent
                            Students Union (NTSU). To provide consistent
                            quality and accessible design, enhancing the
                            readability and appeal of Platform, and
                            promoting NTSU to the student audience.



To promote the activities of NTSU as a whole.

To attend training courses, meetings and conferences related to job role as
agreed by line manager.


To layout the periodical student magazine, Platform, during term time
through the use of appropriate software packages, under direction of
Design & Communications Coordinators.

Create an identity for Platform through the design process consistent with
the student audience.

Design pages to enhance the readers’ experience of Platform; selecting
and enhancing the most appropriate photographs; varying layout/font for
pages to create a style for individual sections; creating original artwork as
required; presenting material in a clear and accessible format.

To work with the Design & Communications Coordinators and Platform
Editor to take into account advertising space, special features and
additional copy where relevant.

To work with the Design & Communications Coordinators and Platform
Editor to ensure proofing the final layout is possible prior to publication.
Make any amendments necessary and prepare the final print-ready version
of Platform.

Communicate with external printers in the event of technical design queries.

To maintain a level of flexibility, working to strict deadlines.

To maintain good working relations with all internal and external parties.

Nottingham Trent Students Union

To create/reinforce a visual identity for NTSU through a design process
consistent with the student audience.

To implement the design of promotional materials as relevant in conjunction
with the relevant Staff and/or Elected Directors under direction of Design &
Communications Coordinators.

To work with the Design & Communications Co-ordinators to push the
development, use and scope of the promotional materials to the benefit of
NTSU and its members.


The post holder will at all times by word and deed portray a positive image
of The Nottingham Trent University Union of Students.

The post holder will set high standards of integrity, punctuality, accuracy,
politeness and professionalism by personal example.

The post holder will be expected to undertake any other task which helps
the Union achieve its objectives, within the overall context and status of the
