HOPE CHAPTER NO. 73
                                     Order of the Eastern Star
                                           Fairfax, VA

                                        February/March 2010

Sisters and Brothers,

This will be our last newsletter. We attempted to keep all our members informed about all the Chapter’s
activities through our newsletters and hope that you have enjoyed reading them. Now, we look forward to
the March installation of officers and the beginning of the new Chapter year.

At our January Stated Meeting, we initiated and welcomed Sister Heather Ripley. Her address, telephone
number, and email are 10241 Colony Park Drive, Fairfax, VA 22032-3234, 703 239-2436,
zripleys418@hotmail.com. Sister Margot Lyddane won the drawing for our January Lucky Star.

With all the snow that got dumped on us in February (approximately 5 feet), we were forced to postpone
the Stated Meeting until Saturday afternoon, February 20, and even then the parking lot at the Lodge had
not been completely cleared so we had a very abbreviated meeting. We did have in attendance 13 members
along with two visiting members. We were thrilled that Sister Alice Jones, Grand Treasurer Emeritus, was
able to join us for this meeting. There were no sideliners as everyone filled a station, thus leaving only
three chairs vacant. Following the meeting, several of the Sisters and Brothers joined the Worthy Matron
and Worthy Patron at the Red Lobster, Dutch treat, for an early dinner and gab fest.

The Draper’s and Damon’s Fashion Show on February 25 was well attended. Many thanks go to Sister
Desdie Archuleta for selling the most tickets, as well as modeling along with her sister, Delma Jo. We also
thank our other models, Sisters Suzanne Neal, Carolina Sanchez, and Tommie Jordan. Sister Verna
Vierick, PGM, was scheduled to model, but she was ill and unable to be with us. Brother Eduardo Sanchez
assumed the role of photographer, and we hope he will have pictures at the March meeting. Thank you
everyone for attending and/or participating.

Our March Stated Meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 5, 8:00 PM (please God, no snow!) when we
will have election of officers for 2010-2011, annual reports, and our usual lucky star drawing. Officers, if
you will be unable to attend this meeting, please advise the Worthy Matron as early as possible by either
telephone, 703 354-7778, or email, tjordan20@cox.net.

The school of instruction for installation of officers is scheduled for Sunday, March 14, 4:30 PM. All
officers of 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 are encouraged to attend. (Again, please God, no snow!!) Also the
time changes on March 14 at 2:00 AM from Eastern Standard Time to Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

The date for the Chapter’s open installation of officers is set for Saturday, March 20, 2:00 PM. (Once
again, please God, no show!!!) We hope many of our members will be able to join us to congratulate the
new officers.

Recently, we have been saddened by the deaths of a Past Grand Matron and Past Grand Patron of Virginia.
Sister Doris Hurley, Worthy Grand Matron 1968-1969 passed from this life in January followed by Brother
David Carter, Worthy Grand Patron 1995-1996, in February. Sympathy is extended to Brother David’s
wife, Sister Betty, and to both families.

Congratulations to Brother Robert Williams upon being invested with the Rank and Decoration of a Knight
Commander of the Court of Honor by the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for faithful service to the
Rite, to Masonry, to the country, and to mankind.
Sister Fonda and Brother Ray Wise are pleased to announce the birth of a new grandson. Those who
attended the fashion show were introducted to the young man who enjoyed all the attention bestowed upon

Sister Paula Franchak is continuing to recuperate from her broken ankle. She now has a walking cast, but
is still using a walker.

Sister Carol Stanton spent a few days in the hospital, but is now home with visiting nurses and home

The Worthy Matron has a schedule of the Northern Virginia Chapters’ March installations. You can
receive a copy either by U.S. Mail or email by contacting her.

The Chapter year is almost over. It has been a very busy year for both the Worthy Matron and Worthy
Patron which we have enjoyed. We have performed to the best of our ability and hope that most of our
efforts have met with your approval.

                                     Sincerely and Fraternally,

Tommie Jordan, Worthy Matron Ray Wise, Worthy Patron
