Eligibility Requirements:
               1. For 8th graders, all participants must be currently enrolled at McConnell middle
                  school and live in the Archer district or have a permissive transfer form signed by Dr.
                  Buchanan. For 9th – 11th graders, all participants must be currently enrolled at Archer
                  high school and live in the Archer district. Excluding current 8th graders, permissive
                  transfers are not eligible for Varsity for 1 year.
               2. There are no academic requirements for current 8th grade students. All current 9th –
                  11th grade students must be academically eligible. Academically eligible is defined as
                  being on track to graduate and having passed 5 out of 6 classes the previous semester.
                  Additional information defining “on track to graduate” can be found on the Archer
                  High School website under Athletics.
               3. A current physical and insurance waiver form must be completed and submitted by
                  the paperwork deadline in order to participate in tryouts. Physicals are good for one
                  calendar year. It is your responsibility to make sure the form is complete and turned
                  in on time. No forms, No participation, No exceptions. The physical and insurance
                  form can be found on the Archer High School website under Athletics or the Archer
                  cheerleading website under forms and documents. www.archertigerscheer.com
                       Physicals will be given at the Archer field house 4/27/10 for the upcoming
                          season. The cost is $25, cash only.
               4. All participants and a guardian must sign a consent form to participate in tryouts.


Forms: (Checklist of what needs to be turned in should be clipped to the top of paperwork) The due
date for ALL forms is March 18th. They should be dropped off at the Archer HS Front Office with
Attn: Coach Muyres OR brought to my room #1.434. They must be received by March 18th.

   Tryout Format:
               1. Participants will be taught 1 cheer, 3 chants, and a dance. The cheer will incorporate
                  either tumbling or a jump.
               2. During tryouts you will asked to perform:
                            Toe Touch
                            2-Jump Sequence
                            Standing Tumbling
                            Running Tumbling
                            Cheer
                            Chants
                            Dance
                            Stunting (2nd week of tryouts)
                 3. On 3/25/10 and 4/1/10, please wear a solid red, gray, black OR white tank or t-shirt
                    and solid red, gray, black OR white athletic shorts.
                 4. Hair should be neatly pulled up so it does not rest on shoulders.

   Areas Of Evaluation – During the tryout clinic, the coaches will be evaluating participants on the
   following:
                 1. Work Ethic – works hard, positive attitude, works well with others, self discipline, responds
                    appropriately to constructive criticism
                 2. Ability to learn and remember – learns and recalls quickly
                 3. Timing – cheers, chants and dance
                 4. Motions – placement, sharpness, no bent wrists
                 5. Jumps – clean approach, height, straight legs, pointed toes, clean landing
                 6. Tumbling – height, form, level of difficulty, timing
                 7. Showmanship – enthusiastic, strong voice projection, smiles, ability to lead a crowd
                 8. Appearance – short fingernails (no nail polish), no jewelry, athletic apparel, athletic shoes,
                    hair neatly pulled up

   Squad Selection – Coaches will be evaluating participants throughout the tryout process. We will be
   looking for cheerleaders to fill the roles we have determined will create the best teams. For the 2010-
   2011 school year, we will have 4 squads: Varsity Football/Competition, Varsity Basketball, JV
   Football/Basketball, and 9th grade Football/Basketball. The coaches will decide during tryouts how
   many members will make-up each team.

Please keep in mind that these dues are for new cheerleaders. The cost for cheerleaders cheering
subsequent years will be less since all items will not need to be purchased again. If you cheered last
year, the following items will not need to be purchased again IF IN GOOD CONDITION:
   o Poms
   o Warm-up
   o Raincoat
   o Bag

Additional money for spirit supplies, pre-game meals, etc., will also be collected as needed by the
Team Parent.

We recognize that cheerleading is a very expensive sport. We will do everything we can to keep
your costs as low as possible.

The Booster Club will be responsible for initiating fundraising activities for the cheerleaders to
participate in. These activities are mandatory and will be needed to supplement expenses incurred
by the program and keep your costs as low as possible.

Team Preference:
Please list your team preference from 1 to 4 with 1 being your first choice. Freshmen are eligible for the 9th grade
team. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors are eligible for the JV team. All grade levels are eligible for Varsity
(excluding permissive transfers). Please choose carefully. DO NOT put a number next to a team you are not willing
to cheer for. If you are not able to fulfill the commitment your team requires, this will reflect on your eligibility to
tryout the following year.

School Cheerleading Program and permission to accompany his/her school team by school bus or charter bus on
any of its local or out-of-town trips while he/she is a cheerleader. I agree to assume responsibility for any
unforeseen accident that might occur during travel or participation in this activity. I also authorize any
emergency medical treatment that may be necessary. I further recognize that students on school trips must
adhere to the same code of behavior as if they were on the school campus and are to follow instructions of
coaches, teachers, sponsors, or chaperones.

Gwinnett County Public Schools/Archer High School is not always able to provide transportation for students to
off campus extracurricular school activities. In cases when transportation is not provided by Gwinnett County
Public Schools/ Archer High School, such as use of a school bus or charter bus, it is the responsibility of the
student’s parents or guardian to secure their student’s attendance at such activities. Gwinnett County Public
Schools, its local schools, officers, employees or agents shall not be responsible for any injury or loss arising
out of a student’s transportation to or from the off campus activity when such transportation is provided by
parents, students, school staff or any other party. Your signature acknowledges your receipt of and
understanding of this policy.
