FRESHMAN FOOTBALL CHEERLEADER TRYOUTS
GENERAL INFORMATION
I. TRYOUTS:
Clinics:
Clinics will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 6th – 8th
from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at MBA to teach you the material for the tryout.
You will learn one cheer, one sideline chant, a short dance routine,
and jumps. Tryout material will be taught by the Coaches and
current senior cheerleaders. Attendance at the clinics is not
mandatory, but it is highly recommended. If you are not in
attendance, you must give a coach a written explanation of why
you are unable to attend.
Squad Selection:
Selection for the freshman squad will be held on Sunday, April 11th
at 3:00 pm. Judges will be qualified former cheerleaders with no
affiliation to MBA. This is a closed tryout (i.e., no spectators will be
allowed at the tryouts). The girls trying out will be allowed to arrive
at the gym at 2:30 pm to warm up.
Criteria:
Cheerleaders will be evaluated on projection, fundamental skills,
and knowledge of tryout material. Although gymnastics/tumbling
skills are not required for tryouts, this is a category which will be
evaluated.
Attire:
Attire for those trying out is black or navy blue shorts, white collared
polo-type shirts, socks, proper shoes. Please do not wear any
jewelry (rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc).
Results:
Squads will be posted to the MBA cheerleading website
(www.mbacheer.com) as soon as possible.
II. PERMISSION SLIPS:
Parent permission slips are due by Thursday April 8th. Please include
a copy of your school/athletic medical form or a doctor’s note
indicating that you are physically fit to try out for cheerleading. You
will not be allowed to go through the selection process without
these two forms.
III. ELIGIBILITY and COMMITMENT:
Eligibility requirements:
You are eligible to try out for the Freshman Football squad if you are
a student in good standing, both academically and in behavior,
who will be a freshman at Harpeth Hall or St. Cecilia for the 2010-
2011 school year.
***You must be willing to make the commitment to the squad a priority in
your schedule.
Time commitment:
Attendance at all practices and games is required. While in your
season cheerleading takes precedence, and points will be
assigned for absences and lateness (see Penalties, below). You
are expected to attend weekly practices, all games and possibly a
few pep rallies.
Penalties:
Members who do not abide by the rules will be penalized as they
penalize the performance of the entire squad. A Points System is
utilized to track penalties. Members who abuse the rules will be
replaced or not allowed to try out in the future. If you are
suspended from cheering a game, you are required to attend the
game in uniform and assist the coach. Failure to attend a
suspension game will result in an additional suspension game.
Please consider the schedule carefully BEFORE you try out.
Quitting:
Please take into consideration that trying out for an MBA
cheerleading team indicates that you are making a commitment
to participate for the year. If you decide to quit the squad at any
point past the posting of the squad selection, you will not be
allowed to try out for MBA cheerleading again.

camp during the summer. More information will be given at the
