Welcome to Oakland Yard Athletics Summer Camps 2011
VARIETY
For 15 years, since 1995, Oakland Yard Summer Camps has offered parents and kids a fun, safe, entertaining, and
convenient environment for kids to satisfy their curiosity. Our campus is geared up for kids to explore dozens and
dozens of different activities that pique their imagination. Kids can try traditional sporting pursuits like lacrosse,
stimulate themselves in a variety of art activities like sewing, engage in a myriad of technical camps such as forensics,
or challenge their noggins with brain buster hobbies like chess.
CONVENIENCE and VALUE
Oakland Yard has been a valuable resource for parents to keep their kids active throughout the summer months. We
offer the most flexible schedule of attending our programs so that you only need to enroll when you need our services.
Our attention to your children far exceeds the value you’d find in traditional daycare options.
NEW FOR 2011
As we enter our 16th summer, Oakland Yard is pleased to offer ON-LINE REGISTRATION with several payment
options. It’s secure and easy to use. After you register, you’ll receive an email confirmation and your welcome packet
in the mail. We’ve added an additional 4 new camps this year and we've tweaked the old favorites using your feed-
back to make sure they stay fresh and exciting.
SAFETY
We realize your children are paramount. That’s why Oakland Yard strives to maintain a consistent staff from year
to year. All staffers have Michigan State Police background checks performed prior to hiring. Our unique passport
program ensures your child’s vital information travels with him/her throughout their experience at Oakland Yard.
THANK YOU
Thanks for considering us. We are incredibly excited about celebrating our 16th season with you!

Dinner and a Playground
Where else can you go in Oakland County where your kids can run around outside having fun in a safe environment
for FREE, while you eat and drink with friends on the largest outdoor patio in town? Oakland Yard, of course.
Word is spreading about this fantastic family spot so we've opened up every Friday night from May 20 – August 19.
We’re going to heat up the barbeque and ice down the beverages on our patio bar. There's music to unwind by, sand to
play in, a slip-'n-slide to cool off on, great grill fare to fill up on, and soccer or t-ball leagues to play in.
Little kids to grandparents will enjoy an evening of relaxation and fun. Our facility is open to all and free to use;
basketball courts, volleyball courts, a soccer field, and a slip-n-slide. League enrollment is for a small fee, see below. If
your child becomes a Camp Member they’ll even eat for free (see above). Advanced table reservation not taken; first
come, first seated. Kitchen open from 6-10pm.
May 20 – Camper Open House
This evening will kick off our summer camp season. Bring your children for an opportunity to meet our summer camp
staff for the 2011 season and a chance to see all that our 10-acre facility has to offer. Those of you who have attended our
Family Fun Nights in the past know that this is an evening filled with fun. As in the past our Talent Camp Director, Mark
Edwards, will be DJing this kickoff to summer and leading the kids in organized games in the beach volleyball courts,
including hula hoop and limbo contests. We’ll also have inflatables and, of course, our slip-n-slide! Open House from
6-9pm. Patio bar open until 12am.
Friday Night Summer Sports League
This is a seven-week long league, with one-hour games played every Friday night during Dinner and a Playground. They
can best be described as "instructional leagues". We’ll take any child interested in playing, place them with their family
and friends, and provide all the coaching and jerseys. Parents can enjoy themselves while watching from our patio bar.
Please remember to bring a towel and dry clothes; slip-n-slide will be open. All our programming is co-ed. Please indi-
cate school year completed- K/1 (Kindergarten or 1st Grade) or 2/3 (2nd and 3rd Grade). Game times will be 5:30pm,
6:30pm, 7:30pm or 8:30pm. Times will vary weekly depending on the randomly produced league schedule. All families
will be contacted by phone or email on the Tuesday prior to the first scheduled date with their first game time.
Session #1: 5/13, 5/20, 5/27, 6/03, 6/10, 6/17 and 6/24 Session #2: 7/8, 7/15, 7/22, 7/29, 8/05, 8/12 and 8/19
Cost: One session $49 per child or $89 for both sessions. Registration: On-line at oaklandyard.com or 248/673.0100
SOCCER K & 1st Grade and SOCCER 2nd & 3rd grade – Our soccer programs fill up fast, don't miss out on the fun! Par-
ents can enjoy the patio while watching their kids! Oakland Yard recommends soccer players wear shorts and gym shoes.
Cleats and shin guards are not required. Children who have finished a year of kindergarten or 1st grade are eligible for
K/1. Teams of 11 will be formed. League capacity is 88.
T-BALL K & 1st Grade – Sign your kids up to play t-ball, then grab a drink, sit back and relax. We’ll do all the coaching
and organizing. Games will be played on our turf field. Teams of 9 kids, all safety equipment provided; players need their
own baseball mitt. League capacity is 54.

OYA Before and After Camp Programs
Breakfast Club – 7:30am to 9:30am
Children may be dropped off at Oakland Yard for breakfast prior to camp as early as 7:30am. (Please no drop offs before 7:30.)
Campers will have a choice of several items each morning such as French toast, eggs, pancakes, bacon, donuts, muffins, oatmeal,
orange juice, hot cocoa, cold cereal, etc. After breakfast, campers can draw, kick around a soccer ball, play board games or just
relax and watch the Cartoon Channel. Breakfast Club runs from 7:30am to 9:30am Monday through Friday. Hot breakfast served
until 8:45 am. Breakfast Club costs $65 per week, or $17 daily. Sign-up the morning of or in advance.
Our Lunch Club Program – 12:00pm to 3:00pm
We have revised our Lunch Club this summer to give children solid choices if they want to participate in scheduled program-
ming. If they liked the traditional relaxed Lunch Club structure, we haven’t changed it. We are just going to offer and encourage
a more structured program.
Lunch Club starts after our morning camp session concludes. Lunch Club runs from 12:00pm to 3:00pm Monday through Friday
and costs $85 (see below for options). Roughly half of the morning camp population stays each week to ‘party with the staff’ dur-
ing Lunch Club. Directly after morning camp we serve a healthy unlimited lunch buffet on the patio. Kids enjoy a well-rounded
lunch with cold drinks; their morning camp staff member attends to all kids during lunch. Our daily menu rotates. Main entrée
items include, but are not limited to, quesadillas, Sloppy Joe’s, tacos, grilled cheese, nachos, submarine sandwiches, barbecued
hamburgers, and chicken nuggets. Vegetables and fruit accompany all hot entrees. Chips, cookies, and other snacks are also offered
daily. After all kids are full, campers have a mandatory afternoon meeting on the hill to explain the activities for the afternoon and
to slather on the sunscreen. This meeting usually takes 10 minutes.
The first hour of Lunch Club is now called “Free Hour.” After a structured morning, campers love the freedom to choose to
kick around a ball, play a board game, ride the gigantic slip-n-slide or just hang out with their friends. During Free Hour the
following stations will be open: golf driving range, Lego’s, slip-n-slide and sand castle contest. Campers can also choose to chill
under the tent with games and books.
After Free Hour we open 6 stations that are rotated every half-hour at the sound of the bell. Campers can sign up for at least
three of the six stations. Look at the Activities Board each morning for the days’ station offerings. Our slip-n-slide will be open
and attended by a staff member throughout the afternoon for cool-down rides anytime.
STATION #/NAME SAMPLE ACTIVITIES
1 - Sports Basketball, soccer, mini sticks, kickball, lacrosse, dodge ball, skateboarding
2 - The Yard Nuke-em, tetherball, horseshoes, 4-square, capture the flag, sandcastle contests

lanyards and more

campers must be enrolled in camp that same week.
Special Exceptions:
If your camp includes a field trip, your cost for weekly Lunch Club is:
$65.00 - 4 days of Lunch Club for the week (field trip one day)
$55.00 - 3 days of Lunch Club for the week (field trip two days)
Examples are: Dino, Science, Under the Sea, Golf, Bird, Pilot, Wilderness Exploration, Nasa, Advanced Nasa, etc.

What’s What at OYA
OYA Passports
Oakland Yard is continuing our passport program to ensure that we are a leader in safety by providing a worry-free place for
parents to leave their children. In addition to our passport security measure, we will ask that you park your car and come into our
gated area each day to drop off and pick up your child. Children will not be released into the parking lot without a parent/adult
chaperone at the conclusion of camp. Attention Parents: Please be aware, any of our staff may ask for ID upon departure.
How it Works
Campers will use their passport on a daily basis to check in with their respective counselors once they enter our campus through
the front gated area. Counselors will use this passport and the information contained therein as a quick reference for attendance,
emergency information and departure. Upon receipt of your child’s passport, we request that you refer to the appropriate pages
and fill in the required information with a pencil. If someone other than yourself will be picking up your child at the end of the
day, it is imperative that you record this information in the passport. We understand that the protection of your privacy is impor-
tant, therefore we do not ask for your home address or personal information in the passport. Camper passports will be returned
to each child at the end of the day when their parent checks them out with their counselor.
There is a one-time passport fee of $10 per child regardless of the number of camps for which they are registered. This passport will
never expire and can be used as long as the required photograph of your child is updated each year. Replacement of a lost passport
is $10. Handmade passports will not be accepted.
Ice Cream and Candy Credits
Parents who want to pre-purchase ice cream and candy for the campers can do so for any amount they desire. Just fill in the
registration box with the code on your application and write in the amount you want to purchase.
Why do this? It allows the kids to have a treat without carrying around cash, which they may lose. Our counselors will keep the
passports safe during the day. Campers can redeem their credits after camp concludes at noon or at a predetermined time during
Lunch Club and Working Parent hours.
If you are a new camper and we are sending you a passport, we will stamp your ice cream and candy page with the appropriate
credits. If you are a returning camper and already have a passport, we will have a stamped ice cream page to add to your passport.
Candy and ice cream costs are $1.
Slip-n-Slide
From our youngest to oldest campers, our slip-n-slide has become an old favorite. Every child enrolled in a camp that takes
place at Oakland Yard will get a daily opportunity to play on our gigantic slide. Measuring 150 feet in length and 20 feet in width,
our amazing slide is even a hit with our counselors! Everybody that wants to cool off will get plenty of opportunities at a run
down the slide this summer.
Campers should bring a towel and bathing suit to camp each day if they would like to use the slip-n-slide. Depending on the
weather, each camp group will spend approximately 10 to 15 minutes per day cooling off on the slide.
Your Children and Sunscreen
Please be advised that your child will be outside in the sun for a portion of the day for most camps while at Oakland Yard. We
make all efforts to ensure that each and every child is protected with sunscreen while here under our care. We ask that you help
in this effort by applying sunscreen to your child before you drop them off in the morning. If your child will be staying for an
extended afternoon with our Lunch Club and/or Working Parent we will reapply sunscreen at the lunch time hour and as needed
throughout the day. To help with this, we ask that you send sunscreen with your child in a daypack and advise your child that
his/her cooperation in reapplication is appreciated and necessary.
Oakland Yard will accommodate all allergy/dietary needs to the best of our ability.
Please contact our Camp Director Dawn Hull (dawn@oaklandyard.com) to discuss your specific needs.
See pg. 3 for Campership information. 5
What's What at OYA
Oakland Yard Web & Email Communications
We often use email as a way to send notes, camp information and also announcements. It is important that you have your email ad-
dress on file with us.
Our website is Oaklandyard.com. A lot of our camp information is available for download in the “forms” section of the website (par-
ent’s guide, transportation, refund policy, Friday Night League registrations). If you have any questions or concerns you may email
the camp director at Dawn@oaklandyard.com. We generally attempt to respond promptly to all emails, however if your matter is time
sensitive, it is best to reach us at 248.673.0100.
Transportation
Oakland Yard is offering transportation to and from our off- site camps (Rock Climbing and Pilot Camp) for a nominal fee of $20 per
week or $6 per day. The van will leave half an hour prior to start of camp. If you are running behind, please contact the office and you
will be responsible for transporting your camper to camp that day.
For all other camps that include a field trip, the cost of transportation is included in the camp. Children under the age of 8, unless they
are 4’9 or taller, must provide Oakland Yard with a booster seat. Please label seats with your campers name. Children without a booster
seat or transportation waiver will be denied transport for their field trip.
Parents or Guardians: please sign waiver for transportation at front desk or at oaklandyard.com/forms.htm.
OYA Mail Call
As overnight campers, we loved getting care packages from Mom and Dad. Our day campers can experience this same thrill with our
OYA Mail Call. We have our own official mailbox for you to deposit your letters, care packages and such into when you drop off your
campers in the morning (without the expense of shipping). Kids are so excited to get the mail and it’s a great way for you to let them
know you are thinking about them. Please be sure to drop off all packages no later than Wednesday morning. We will have Mail Call on
Wednesday during our Lunch Club daily roll call. If your child is not involved in our Lunch Club program, deliveries will be made (to
your child) on Thursday morning at the start of their camp. We will still be accepting your mail via the US Postal Service if you prefer to
send it “officially.” Please send all mail to Oakland Yard Athletics addressed to your camper, with ATTN: Mail Call in the bottom right
corner of the envelope.
Refund Policy
Camps: Oakland Yard Athletics will refund 95% of the registration fee if requested 7 days prior to the start of the camp. If a refund
is requested within 7 days of the start of the camp the refund will amount to 80% of the registration fee. Refunds will not be given once
a camp has started. Prorated refunds will be granted upon receipt of a doctor’s note only once a camp has started. Oakland Yard offers
100% refunds for any programs we cancel. There are no deductions from the camp for missed camp days.
Breakfast and Lunch Club: Breakfast and Lunch Club are discounted for week-long purchases. Discounts are adjusted prior to any
refunds so canceling 1 day of Breakfast Club results in no refund. Canceling a 2nd day of breakfast results in a $6 refund. Likewise, can-
celing 1 day of Lunch Club results in no refund. Canceling a 2nd day of lunch club results in a $10 refund. Please allow up to three weeks
for a refund to be processed.
Canceled Check Policy: There will be a $25 fee for all returned checks.
Order Changing Policy: All order changes must go through the camp director. You may pick up a request form at the front desk
or email dawn@oaklandyard.com. Please include camper name, order number, new request of changes and how we may contact you.
Changes will be made based on availability of camps. There is a $10 administrative fee for each camp change request. All refund policies
still apply. Please allow three weeks for a refund to be processed.
Rain Day Policy
In the event of rain, Oakland Yard campers will participate in an indoor field day with all of the campers from all camps inside the
dome. Although campers will be welcome to stay for the day when it rains, they may be asked to participate in activities other than the
camp for which they have registered. There will be a variety of activities offered throughout the morning such as capture the flag, kick
ball, soccer, and football to name a few. We understand that many parents rely on Oakland Yard Camps to care for their children while
they are at work. Please be assured that we will never turn your child away on a rain day. We just ask that you are aware that your child’s
day may not revolve around the activities for which they have been enrolled. That is, if they have been enrolled for golf for the week,
they will not be golfing on the rain day. Camps that generally do go about their business on rain days are Sports & Games, Arts & Crafts,
Soccer, Hip Hop and Cheerleading. There will be no makeup days offered if a rain day should occur, except where noted.
Electronics
All electronics (Gameboys, MP3 players, cell phones, etc.) and personal Pokemon cards will be prohibited. Many of these items are
expensive and Oakland Yard Athletics cannot be held responsible for the loss or theft of these items. Additionally, our experience has
shown us that these items create distractions for campers, who we encourage to participate in active and social activities.

Counselor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Has your child been with us since they were 5? Are they getting to that age where they've outgrown all of our camps? Do they
talk about being a Summer Camp Counselor once they are old enough?
Teens that are 14 years old by June 1st, 2011 can apply and interview for a summer Counselor-In-Training (CIT) position. They
will interview with our CIT and Camp Directors, just like all potential employees do. If selected, there is a minimum commitment
of four weeks over the course of the summer. At the end of their four weeks they will have a comprehensive evaluation with the
CIT and Camp Director. This evaluation will determine whether or not the CIT could be offered a paid position the following
summer. (We hire paid counselors at 16 years of age).
We will provide the CIT with an opportunity to learn from some of the best camp counselors in the business. Most of Oakland
Yard's counselors are full-time teachers during the school year or full-time college students at some of the best Midwest universi-
ties. All CITs will be under the guidance and supervision of our CIT Director whose responsibility will be to guide and mentor
the CITs throughout the summer.
CITs will need to be on campus at 8:45am each day for a daily meeting and to assist in the preparation of each camp. Camp
assignments will be given on Monday morning. CITs will be with the same camp all week.
CITs will be given a 2011 CIT staff shirt on the first day.
Interested candidates should download an application from our website @ oaklandyard.com/forms.htm. Please mail the ap-
plication to Oakland Yard Athletics, Attention: CIT Director. After receipt of the application, candidates will be contacted and an
interview will be scheduled.

NEW! – Baking Camp
9-13 yrs. $140 with Campership or $155 without
Got a kid always trying to lick the brownie spoon (despite the raw egg)? Do their baking skills need a little work? Are they
fixated with ‘Cake Boss’? Turn their inner-cooking passion loose this summer, and with a little luck eat some of their creations
nightly after dinner. We’ve partnered with Buttercream Bakeshop owner Marsha Hogerheide for this introductory baking camp.
Marsha will lead all camps throughout the summer, providing cooking tricks and years of experience along the way. Campers
will learn to use all of the tools of the trade (whisks, measuring cups, blenders, thermometer, kitchen scales) as they bake differ-

This camp is for younger campers who have an interest in bird watching. Children will build at least two houses and/or feed-

These models will be assembled using pre-cut pieces. As a second project, children will have to develop their own blueprint (with
assistance from the staff), then construct their design using natural materials found in Mother Nature’s forest. Campers will pack

this camp. Campers will be assigned their own electric car to drive and maintain throughout the week while they learn the ‘rules

Campers will earn their drivers license by taking a driving test prior to getting the keys to their new ride. Not to worry moms
and dads, these cars don’t go very fast. Throughout the week, campers will learn the essentials of ‘auto economics’: fuel, speed-
ing tickets, insurance fees, and maintenance. Practical knowledge will also be part of the fun including parking, four-way stops,
pedestrian and bicycle safety, merging, changing lanes, and obeying traffic signs in preparation for the fun on Friday. Friday will

pieces for our little LEGO® enthusiasts and then work with them for as long as they’re interested.

Treasure Hunting – Pirates
5-7 yrs. $115 with Campership or $125 without
Arrrrr! Attention all buccaneers, corsairs and privateers! Did you know that Edward “Blackbeard” Teach was named Blackbeard
for his large black beard that almost covered his entire face? Did you know that Black Bart’s real name was Bartholomew Roberts?
Did you know that Captain Kidd, one of the most well-known pirates of all times, had originally been employed to rid the seas of
pirates? These are just a few pirates that had fearsome reputations hundreds of years ago as they plundered and looted vessels.
While these pirates sailed the seven seas, your camper will live their experiences on land!
The week will begin with the pirates using clues to search for various pieces of a treasure map that will have to be put together
to see where the buried treasured is. Does “X” really mark the spot? Throughout the week there will be various “scavenger hunts”
and codes to crack that will challenge these pirates – all hunts leading to treasure, of course! By the end of the week, if successful,
these pirates will have found a key that will open a treasure chest filled with a bounty of booty.
Campers will use magnifying glasses, binoculars, shovels, ropes, their minds, and their fellow campers to crack the codes that
lead to the day’s treasure. Just like the weekly New York Times crossword puzzles, the codes and clues will get more and more
difficult as the week progresses. Rhymes, riddles, maps, and keys will all be used to puzzle your young pirate daily. Camp runs
Monday thru Friday 9:30am to 12:00pm.

as the week progresses. Rhymes, riddles, maps, and keys will all be used to puzzle your camper. Camp runs Monday thru Friday
