GENERAL PRACTICE CHOICES, SUNDERLAND



A free, confidential support service for all general practice staff in Sunderland.



Since the set up of the scheme in 2000, General Practice Choices have offered support in both

personal and professional matters to all engaged in primary care.



Over recent years, varied support to a large number of colleagues has been given.



 Personal problems  Partnership Problems

 Drug addiction  Complaints against Staff

 Alcoholism  GMC enquiries

 Marital Problems  Disciplinary Issue

 Family Crisis  Professional Development

 Victimisation  Short-term Locum Support

 Alleged Poor Performance  PMS Contracts

 Local Professional Enquiries  Counselling to reduce Stress









The Scheme is ran by three experienced GP’s:

The service can offer the following:-



 Confidential support to all practices/colleagues with personal/professional difficulties

 24 hour telephone help line

 meetings with individuals in/outside of normal working place and in/outside of normal

working hours

 Mentoring Support

 Access to counselling or a referral to other bodies as appropriate

 Access to emergency locum cover for GP’s

 Access to Locum Cover for Practice Nurses

 Access to the Retired Doctors Locum Support Scheme

 Funding for locum support

 Access to Practice Match (support with advertising staff vacancies)

 Financial support for Single handed GPs Support Groups.

 Support with Professional Development/Training
