Ph.D. Entrance Test October, 2011
In accordance with the University Grants Commission’s minimum standards and procedure
for awards of M. Phil/Ph.D. degree Regulation, 2009 published in the Gazette of India, No.
28 dated July 11, 2009 in Part III, Section 4, the North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon has
prepared revised rules for the admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in
different subjects and in inter-disciplinary areas. As per the above rules, North Maharashtra
University, Jalgaon is conducting Second PET on October 16, 2011.
2. Entrance Test
The Entrance Test is compulsory for the candidates who are seeking admission as a regular
(Full-time) student for Ph.D. degree in University Schools/Departments except those who
qualify the NET/SET/JRF examinations. However, the candidates who are willing to seek
admission as part time student in University Schools/Departments may be exempted from
Entrance Test subject to fulfillment of (a) (b) (c) (d) and (e) as mentioned below.
The candidates who are seeking admission for Ph.D. degree in Research Institutes/Centers (in
colleges or industries) or recognized place of research of North Maharashtra University,
Jalgaon and who fulfills one of the following conditions will be exempted from Entrance
(a) Qualified in SET/NET/JRF examinations of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/
(b) Following persons with exceptional abilities and Senior Citizens at the discretion of
(i) Persons with exceptional abilities (who have achieved outstanding academic
performance as evidenced by publishing at least 03 research papers in
international journals having impact factor more than 03 or granted patent/s
which is/are used in industry) who have passed Graduate Degree Examination
with 50 % of marks and with 15 years experience after graduation in related
(ii) Senior citizens of age 60 years and above with Graduate degree in exceptional
cases at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
(c) Passed M.Phil, M.E./M.Tech, M.Pharm from statutory University.
(d) Teachers having 5 years regular (unconditional approval) teaching experience at
(e) Foreign Students.
(f) Chartered Accountant with Post-graduate degree.
Out of total available seats, 50 % seats each will be allocated to the candidates who
qualify the Entrance Test and the candidates who are exempted from the Entrance Test
as mentioned above, respectively. The reservation policy of the State Govt. will be
followed while allocating seats.
The split up of 50 % seats reserved for exempted candidates is as below :
(a) Qualified in SET/NET/JRF examinations of the apex bodies as CSIR/UGC/ICAR/
ICMR/DBT – 60 % amongst above mentioned seats.
(b) Passed M.Phil, M.E./M.Tech, M.Pharm from statutory University – 20 % amongst
above mentioned seats.
(c) Teachers having 5 years regular (unconditional approval) teaching experience at
U.G./P.G. level – 20 % amongst above mentioned seats.
(d) Besides this, (i) persons with exceptional abilities who have passed Graduate Degree
Examination with 50 % of marks and with 15 years experience after graduation in
related fields, (ii) Senior citizens of age 60 years and above with Graduate degree in
exceptional cases and (iii) Foreign students will be allocated seats over and above of
available seats at the discretion of Vice-Chancellor.
3. Structure of the Entrance Test
There will be two papers i.e. Paper-I and Paper – II for the Entrance Test. The syllabi of
Paper-I and Paper-II for various subjects covered under different Boards and Faculties are
uploaded on University website.
(a) Paper – I : General Aptitude Test
This paper will have 100 questions with multiple choice covering logical reasoning,
numerical ability, reasoning and language aptitude. Each correct answer carries 1
mark. There will be no negative marking system.
Candidate who scores 50 % marks and above (45 % marks and above, in case of
SC/ST candidates) will be declared as pass. The list of successful candidates in
Paper-I will be declared Subject-wise on University website www.nmu.ac.in. The
Paper-II of Entrance Examination will be examined, only the candidates who qualify
in Paper-I. The score of Paper – I will be valid for next three years from the date of
declaration of results to appear for Paper-II.
(b) Paper – II : Subject Specific Test
Paper-II will be also of 100 marks. Out of which 20 marks will be allocated multiple
choice objective questions covering relevant subjects in the faculty and 80 marks will
be allocated to theoretical descriptive questions in the relevant subject.
4. How to apply for Entrance Test
The details regarding revised Ph.D. rules, Syllabi of Entrance Test, Online Application Form,
Schedule of Entrance Examination etc. are available on the University Website
www.nmu.ac.in. The candidates those who are eligible to get exemption from Entrance
Test, will also have to apply Online to get exemption.
All the below mentioned candidates those who wish to apply for admission for the Ph.D.
degree should fill up this online application form with prescribed fees.
a) Those qualified Paper-I and II in the Entrance Examination conducted on September 26,
2010 but not allotted guides.
b) Those who have qualified only Paper-I.
c) Those who have exempted earlier from Entrance Examination conducted on September
26, 2010 and not allotted guides.
Candidate willing to apply for Ph.D. admission should fill-up the ONLINE application form
and must send hard copy of the Application Form along with D.D. and other supporting
documents to the following address as per schedule.

The Application Form can be filled only online from 01.10.2011 to 07.10.2010 till 5.30 p.m.
5. Fee structure for admission/Entrance Test to Ph.D. Course.
The fee should be paid by a demand draft of any nationalized bank drawn in favour of
“Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon” payable at Jalgaon. The fee once paid
will not be refunded at any cost. The fee structure is as follows :

Note : The candidates those who are eligible to get exemption from Entrance Test, will
also have to pay the fee as mentioned above.
6. Procedure for submission of Online Application Form
Please go through all the details like important dates, eligibility criteria before filling up the
online application form for Ph.D. Entrance Test – October 2011.
First draw the DD (The Demand Draft of any Nationalized Bank should be drawn in
favour of “Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon, payable at
Please carry all the detail information of your DD with you when you start filling the
online application form.
It is extremely important to fill the details of Demand Draft in the Application form
which is compulsory for submission of form.
Once you are ready with all the details, click on the Link Apply Online where you
will be in a position to fill an Application form for Ph.D. Entrance Test –
October, 2011. The application form will be available only online on the website
Fill all the information carefully as per the given instructions.
Preview the filled Application Form carefully. For updating/modifying filled
information, if any, by clicking on Back.
If filled information is correct, submit the online filled application form by clicking
After submitting the online form, system will assign a unique Application Number for
your application, which you have to note down.
Print the hard copy of the submitted online Application Form by clicking Download
The printed application form will be of two pages : first page- Online filled
Application Form and Second page – Declaration.
Affix your recent passport size photo on the space provided on online Application
form and get it attested from the Head of Department/Principal of the
Sign in the space provided for the signature on the printout of the Application Form.
Using the Link “Print Application”, you can take print out of your online application
later by entering your Name/Application No.
The candidate is solely responsible for his eligibility and the information which he/she
has furnished in the online Application Form. No request for changes in the
information provided in the online filled Application Form will be entertained.
Incomplete application will be rejected without assigning any reason and no further
correspondence will be entertained.
Only filling and submission of online Application Form is not sufficient. If hard copy
along with Demand Draft and other necessary documents is not received before
07.10.2011, the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the Entrance Test
considered for exemption.
Submit the following supporting documents along with the hard copy of the online
a) The Demand Draft of prescribed Entrance Test fee (of any Nationalized Bank) drawn
in favour of the “Registrar, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon” payable at
Jalgaon. Write your application form Number, your address behind the Demand
b) Attested photocopy of the Caste Certificate in case of reserved categories.
c) Attested photocopy copy of the Medical Certificate issued by Civil Surgeon in case of
Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates.
d) Attested photocopy of marks-sheet of Master’s Degree or equivalent examination.
e) Attested photocopies of the Certificate(s) of claiming fulfilling the conditions for the
exemption from Entrance Test.
7. Procedure for submission of hard copy of online application form :
The following instructions should be followed while submitting the online filled Application
(a) Enclose the hard copy of the online Application Form along with the supporting
documents as mentioned above and Demand Draft of prescribed fee in an envelope of
size 36 cm x 25 cm.
(b) Affix appropriate postage on envelope and send the envelope to the address
mentioned above by post/speed post/courier so as to reach on or before the last date of
submission of hard copy of online Application Form as given in important dates.
8. Hall Ticket
The Hall ticket will be provided to all candidates only online on the University Website
www.nmu.ac.in by entering the application number. You have to take a printout of the Hall
Ticket, by clicking “Print Hall Ticket” link available at www.nmu.ac.in.
Paste your recent passport size photograph on the space provided on Printout of Admit
Card and get it attested from the Head of Department/Principal of the College/Gazetted
Student has to come with this Printout of the Admit Card at the time of the Entrance Test.
