Job Description Director of Undergraduate Studies
The Director of Undergraduate Studies is responsible for all aspects of taught course teaching
with the support of many others who have particular responsibility for
• student welfare
• student recruitment
• careers advice
• examinations
• course and year coordination
The Director of Undergraduate Studies exercises leadership within the team of those responsible
for teaching.
The Director of Undergraduate Studies is responsible for implementing teaching policy as
determined jointly in consultation between the Director of Undergraduate Studies, the Head of
Department, other senior members of the department, Academic committee, and staff/student
committees.
In consultation with the above, and with appropriate delegation, the Director of Undergraduate
Studies is responsible for
• Developing and maintaining the curriculum of undergraduate programmes
• Developing and maintaining procedures for assessment of students
• Overseeing feedback to students
• Allocating roles in teaching and teaching administration to members of the department
• Maintaining quality assurance and ensuring that staff perform their teaching duties competently
• Representing teaching in academic staff recruitment and promotion
• Recruitment and supervision of Graduate Teaching Assistants
• Supervising the day-to-day administration of teaching
• Securing accreditation of the taught course programmes
•The teaching interface with Central Administrative Services, with College committees, and with
committees and organisations external to the College.
