MEMORANDUM
DATE: August 8, 2011
TO: FACULTY AND GRADUATE INSTRUCTORS
FROM: Rita Sears
RE: FALL 2011 (1118) - Instructional Tools Documents
The Fall 2011 Instructor Information web page is now available for you to access:
http://www.math.unt.edu/courses.shtml (Click on “Instructor Information.”)
The needed instructional resource documents for Fall 2011 are located on this web page. If you
do not find what you are looking for, please let me know. Syllabus shells (suitable for your
customization) and all prerequisite verification materials are located on the Instructor
Information web page. If you choose to distribute your own syllabus to your students and are
teaching a lower-level course, all information on the pre-prepared course syllabus shell must be
included to meet SACS standards.
If you are teaching a course for the first time that requires Prerequisite Verification and not able
to attend the Common meeting and the Course Coordinator meeting, you MUST SEE ME to go
over the new procedures. I will be working with you the first week of class to answer any
questions you may have regarding prerequisite verification. It is now set up with EIS that a
student cannot enroll in a math class unless they have met prerequisite. Information will be
given to you as far as announcing to your students in regards to the requisites that need to be met
in order to be in your class. I will email you if there are specific students who are in question to
their eligibility so that you can have them come see me. Be sure to read the Guidelines for
Prerequisite Verification Procedure immediately upon receipt of this e-mail.
Math Lab. Note that the Math Lab schedule has been included on the syllabus shells for
1000-2000 level courses. The Math Lab opens Thursday, September 1, 2011; it will NOT be
staffed to tutor students from the first day of class, August 25 through August 31. Fliers for the
Math Lab ("what to expect" and a schedule) will be placed in your mailbox for distribution to
your students.
Reminder: Instructors do not have the authority to alter the final exam schedule.
There are two things to remember when DROPPING a student from your class: 1) If you
choose to include your attendance policy on your syllabus and state that you will drop students
for non-attendance, you may do so with the "Unsatisfactory Progress" form after the semester
begins. 2) The office staff is given the authority -- by default -- to sign withdrawal forms for
your students UNLESS you wish to retain that authority. You MUST indicate as such by the
12th class day, Thursday, September 8, 2011.
Please let me know if you need further assistance for the Fall 2011 semester. Thank you in
advance for your help.
Sincerely,
Rita Sears
