Three of the world's most celebrated ancient mythologies come alive for real-time warfare in this strategy game

from the developers of the acclaimed Age of Empires series. Players choose to lead the Egyptians, the Greeks,

Alpha Prime PC

S eries: Alpha Prime is a standard on the rails FPS that does nothing to differentiate itself from the pack. The game

Developer: Black Element itself is not particularly a bad game but it's not really good either. I purchased the European version of this game

Software for around $9.99 and still felt ripped off. The story centers around the asteroid Alpha Prime and its hubbardium

Publisher: Meridian4 mining colony. Hubbardium is basically considered a dangerous element and the asteroid is put under

Category: Shooter quarantine. This is where the main character of Arnie (whom you play) comes in. He's asked by his ex-girlfriend

Classification: Mature Livia to rescue her current lover and Arnie's previous best friend Warren from the company-quarantined

asteroid. Arnold reluctantly accepts which sets the generic story in motion. Throughout the game Arnie meets

a few other characters most of which he's unable to tell whose side they're on. The story itself is so bland that it's

really difficult to care about any of the people he meets. Combine that with the fact that most of their voice-

2007 work while acceptable is terribly annoying. The game really doesn't offer much for surprises and is extremely

predictable. Here my thoughts on Alpha Prime;

American Conquest: Fight Back PC

S eries: Although the design of the retail box makes this look like a patriotic wargame, it actually goes much deeper

Developer: GSC Game World than that, thankfully. American Conquest: Fight Back is an RTS, but with a weighty dose of strategic complexity

Publisher: CDV Software and historical depth. It's also a "stand-alone expansion pack," so it basically uses the same engine--but it adds a

Entertainment AG messload of new content that doesn't require the original American Conquest to play. If you're looking for an

Category: Strategy RTS with more depth than the usual cycle of gathering resources, building structures and throwing armies at the

Classification: Teen enemy, you may want to take a look at Fight Back, but there are a few caveats to be aware of.

Publisher: Frictional Games The Dark Descent once again attempts to provide gamers with a frighteningly immersive survival horror

Category: Adventure experience. As in the Penumbra games, Amnesia aims to blur the lines between tangible and imagined horrors

Classification: by saddling the main character with a mental disorder. In this case, gamers assume the role of Daniel, who

suffers from debilitating memory loss and is not entirely sure if the noises he hears in the dank corridors of an old

castle are real or imagined. The game is presented from a first-person perspective, complete with heavy

breathing and a pounding heartbeat, and the traditional point-and-click interface has been jettisoned in favor of

more realistic, physics-based environmental interaction. There are no cut-scenes to break up the action, and
