Dear Coaches,
The coaches of Denver Public Schools will host a tournament on Saturday,
February 7, 2009, at North High School, 2960 N. Speer Blvd, Denver, 80211. If
you can join us, please register via speechmeets.com.
Schedule: Tournament registration: 7-7:30; First round, 8 am;
hoping for awards by 6 pm.
We will be offering a JV division for CX. We reserve the right to
collapse the Varsity and JV divisions based on pre-registration numbers.
We will use the NFL topics for Public Forum, LD, and CX. We will be offering
both Foreign and National XT. For DI, HI, PI, DU, OO, and XT, as well as
debate, CHSAA ballots and judging criteria will be used—scripts will be optional
in all interp events. Teams will need a coach on site all day in order to advance
and coaches will be asked to judge two rounds and/or help with tab, judges’
table or student congress.
We will offer student congress this year, with sessions from 9 to 12 and from 1
to 4, with the intention of completing the election of outstanding speakers by
4:30 pm.
Congress legislation should be submitted by January 26th to
Lyn_davies@dpsk12.org
There are several eateries within walking distance to two miles of the campus.
There will also be a concession stand for competitors and the usual food for
coaches and judges. CX debaters will need to bring a file of munchies and eat
“on the fly” as we will try to run 3 rounds and get to CX finals by 3 pm. If we can
run this tournament with no extended breaks in competition, we will.
In order to serve more schools, we are asking each school to enter up to 4 CX
teams, 4 PF teams, and 4 of all other species with the exception of Congress,
for which we propose one house of the first 4 from each school and an unlimited
house of the remaining legislators.
Schools may exceed the maximum entries. You may enter standby
competitors. If you have more than the maximum in any event, your competitors
may hit each other in prelims (in small enough fields this could happen anyway,
of course). And your extra competitors cannot be counted toward sweeps.
Schools that have more than 4 in either house of congress cannot count
congress toward sweeps. Preregistration deadline: January 31st. Fees will
be calculated based on January 31 numbers and any future adds:
$13 per single, $26 per pair, and $10 per legislator.
Sweeps: 6 points per debater win in finals; 3 per debater loss. 6 points for first
place in events; 5 for second, and so on. Congress: 3 points for outstanding
speaker; 2 for superior speaker; 1 for Presiding Officer.
